Clayed the car and then washed it...some resedue was left and I took care of it.

I then went at it with S100 Paintwork Cleanser or whatever it is called with a foam hand applicator..nothing happened to the swirls. Should I apply a coat or two of this then do something more intense or what can be done?

everything is being done by hand right now

What can I use that I can get at Canadian Tire (Autozone, etc)

Should I use the paint cleanser first then move to like a Meguiars #9? Just looking for a list of products to buy, most likely meguiars for right now cause its all i can get my hands on. I have a car show to go to with my brand new car and need it to look mint..dont have time to order product. S100 and Meguiars (which are limited) are all I have access to...and no PC as of yet

Meguiars #9 is nice, I would say it's the next step up from what you are using. The next step would be 3M SMR and then 3M Finesse It-II.

That stuff can be bought at Autozone and it gives you a decent line of abrasives.

~One mans opinion / observation~

My first question is: why are you having to remove surface abrasions from a new paint surface (i.e. no guarantee?)

If you have to remove the surface abrasions try something like ScratchX and if necessary something more aggressive (I can’t help with a more aggressive hand application, although I’m sure someone on this forum will)

Polish or waxing new vehicle paint:

How long do you have to wait before you can polish or wax a new paint film surface? A glaze contains a protective polymer that is paint able. It is completely safe for fresh paint, as it allows the solvents to evaporate. I do not know of a single paint manufacture that recommends applying wax, or any type of paint protectant until a minimum of 30 days has passed and sometimes longer. Dupont standard is to wait 90 days if the vehicle is out in the elements and to wait 120 days if it is kept in a garage most of the time.

It can be argued that catalysed paints are cured chemically and there is no need to wait for 30 days, the manufacture knows their products best, seek their advice and heed it.

~ Hope this helps ~

Experience unshared; is knowledge wasted…/

justadumbarchitect * so i question everything*

this vehicle was Built on June 26, so I think I have waited long enough. It is ford paint that was outside and cleaned terribly at a dealership for 4.5 months. Tons of swirls and marks and crap that need to be polished out.

Because it is just a temporary fix for the show and before i get my full arsonal and PC i might just try and use S100 Cleanser, Megs #9, Mabe Megs Glaze and then S100 Paste Wax..or skip the glaze and go right to the wax.

Just hoping the glaze and wax can cover up the blems

Young_Stallion- If the marring is as bad as I suspect (based on your description), I'd just use #83 DACP then #82 SFP and maybe #81 Hand Glaze (or your P21S GEPC), then wax. The paint's plenty old enough to be waxed.

All those products can be used by hand, but it might take a while. *IMO* you'll be wasting your time trying to fix it with #9, at least by hand.

If you can get 3M stuff, I'd use PI-III RC ( pn 05933) then PI-III MG (pn 05937) before the wax.

Its not terrible, I just make it seem that way. They can only be see if u look very close where it is. this is my first black car so I am paranoid.

Then maybe the DACP IS more than you need, but most people find marring removal to be a lot tougher than they expect, at least the first time they try it on black.

Heh heh, sorry, don't mean to be cryptic. I use "marring" to describe anything that's a "below-surface defect". So etching, scratches, swirls, "cobwebs", hazing, and "holograms" are all "marring" to me. Hope that clarifies things.

You can buy a $10 buffer at any parts store along with a yellow foam bonnet.

This isn't going to get anywhere near a PC, etc. but it will help you more than your hand.

Try the 3M SMR 39009, then glaze, and wax.

It is really hard to say without seeing the vehicle, but I'd at least step up to Meguiars #9. You may even have to go with #2 then follow with #9 before glazing and waxing.

P.S. Why do all you posts end up in the "Professional Detailing" section?

Most of these are better suited for "Detailing" or "Detailing Product".

Just curious :)

Here are results of just S100 Cleaner and S100 Paste wax. I am VERY happy with the results but it did not do much for the swirls, water marks, etc...everything was done by hand

Come spring it will need a good polishing

**my stock wheels were sold and these are just temporary until thursday**
