New Myth Busters: Dirty Cars and Duel Efficiency

Does anyone really believe the results the "Mythbusters" obtain?

Its just a tv show and their results are what they want them to be.

I stopped watching that show. Like they tested fuel economy on cars with a/c and one with the windows down and stuff like the truck bed up and down. They use two different drivers and there is just way too much human error in most of their stuff.

It seems to me that since only the front of the car contacts the air - and then mostly pushes it away from the rest of the body - that only waxing the front half of the nose clip would matter anyway, and not enough to make a difference. That's why the UPS planes did see a benefit - aircraft are much more streamlined and therefore have air in contact with the whole body and wings. Plus they go much faster. Super-sonic aircraft actually get hot from the air friction alone!

As far as the dirty car argument goes, all I know is that in older versions of Gran Turismo, washing your car was meant to lessen the wind resistance of your car. So, it has to be true.

Riiiiight. Most race cars have terrible drag numbers. Their aerodynamics are designed to keep them glued to the track at high speeds, not to improve their fuel efficiency.

seen tons of mythbuster episodes, and they are very clear to state when something may give different results, but in terms of keeping things on an even playing table with the last mpg test, there was zero error possible by humans when they used a second gas tank for every run, did it at an already constant rate. not to mention that whenever they tested mpg the only test that they actually added in stopping, accelerating, etc was the one where it was based on how nervous/anxious/annoyed you were, compared to being calm, which could be different for any person.

i like the show, and from what i can tell they really cover all their bases for the most part.

I'm sorry, you missed the sarcasm in my post.
