New Mothers CMX CERAMIC SPRAY COATING

I gather products like CMX are supposed to be better than conventional LSPs like FK1000P, right? I mean..besides the different application.

CMX is easier to use than a wax or sealant. Wipe on buff off. I’m not convinced CMX is better than FK1000p, but it may be equal for protection. I’ve yet to do two coats of CMX to see if that might offer more/longer protection, but then you are no longer saving time and effort. Try some CMX over FK1000p.

I just don`t see a coating sticking well to a wax even if it`s synthetic. Regardless, I think best results would be on bare paint.

I’m not going to call CMX a coating or coating lite. I used CMX on bare paint and was disappointed (durability) after less than a month (still good for a topper). It would (probably) be best used over a true coating. Try it over FK1000p and see if it bonds. I haven’t heard of anyone trying CMX over a sealant, I don’t know what would happen. Until it’s tried no one truly knows what is going to occur. The new Meguires ceramic product is used over waxes and sealants, different product I know but similar chemical makeup.

Anyone wants to give it a try, I`ve got a bottle I used to test on a hood, don`t imagine I`ll use it again so if you`re in the continental US and you wanna try it, lemme know and I`ll ship it to you, gratis, no-charge, free.

bodlily22- It might sound like I`m just stirring up [crap] but I`m serious about hearing what people familiar with both products experience.

wannafbody- I`d *assume* (uh-oh! :o ) that many things will bond to FK1000P despite it`s "Hi Temp WAX" name since the FK Pink Wax bonds to it and others have topped it with various things that worked. BUT....as you and Alfisti pointed out, that`s not what Mother`s recommends. IMO it remains to be seen whether that`s a (perfectly reasonable) CYA recommendation or a genuine caveat. I`m currently thinking along the same lines as rlmccarty2000, that nobody will really know until it`s tried.

CMX going to Coleroad...

Ah, great recipient! I`ll be interested to hear what it does for him.

Thanks for the reply.

In my case (very subjective in the specific-to-me sense), the easier application is debatable (undoubtedly not true for many/most others).

I won`t be trying any topper over the FK as it`d preclude adding more...at least not until I believe I have a good (my definition) reason.

Now...if CMX does prove at least as good I`ll be all ears and might consider adjusting my routine to accommodate it. Hey, I resisted the FK for years too and I was sure wrong about that, so I`m keeping an open mind.

I think I need to revisit my purchasing workflow. Currently it seems to be:

"See shiny, new product, buy shiny new product, find vehicle to use it on"

Perhaps switch it up a bit to be:

"Find vehicle to use it on, buy appropriate product"

Not sure even that would help...

You `da man Budget!
Loving my IGL Premier you tossed my way.

Just remember, "need" is a four letter word!

I used it on top of Blackfire Crystal Seal on a new vehicle after polishing it.
I like it and I feel it does what it claims.
As far as durability, I cannot speak. I’ve applied 4 coats within the last 2 weeks.

heloguy- Hey, that`s an interesting combo, and you`re sure getting some great beading out of it.

Yeah, I’m quite pleased. Today I added a layer of Ech2o since I had a little road salt dust accumulation. It looks fantastic. I’ve been pretty lucky with products and combos.
Beginners luck, I guess.

I used CMX today on my Ruby Red F150. Pretty easy to use. Goes on a bit thicker and uses more than Z8. One thing I did notice is some streaking on the matte black finish around the windows. Not sure if it`s permanent or will go away over time.

After sitting overnight and a rainstorm, the matte black streaking is mostly gone. Not 100% perfect but pretty close.

I noticed I use a lot too. It`s almost like the paint is drinking it up.

Apex Detail on YT just released his testing of CMX vs DPC ARMOR vs Megs HCW. DPC ARMOR came in #1, Megs HCW #2, Mothers CMX #3. Of course those were HIS results.
