Found this place after doing some searching for polish/wax info to take care of my new RAM 1500.

I've been doing all of my own detailing and such for nearly 25 years and have learned a lot of valuable lessons (many through mistakes), and can be nearly anal about my vehicle paint.

Already, just from browsing a few threads, I realize I'm way behind the curve on tech and products. I'm working more than I have to...

My procedure for years has been a good wash, hit the paint with a polish/cleaner/swirl remover, then several costs of my old favorite Meguires Gold Class Carnuba. Overall good results, but not as long-lasting as I would like.

I'm looking at ordering a some FK1000P.

Another interesting observation- my new RAM has one of the most consistent and smooth factory paint finishes I've seen on a domestic auto.

Welcome!

If you have moved beyond the "click and brags", you may have noticed that there is a ton of actual "documented" information vs most of the other forums for detailing.

You may have also seen that this site, for the most part, is not full of the individual's "this product is the best thing since sliced bread" threads without some knowledgable people coming in and adding the facts about how many products are just relabled boutique products.

The sponsor of the forum produces top notch products, however they do not "censor" the chats about other products or ban those who do not use or promote their products.

Join us on Wed nights at 8 PM EST on the open chat, a lot of "not necesarily" correct lanquage, after all, it's a group of detailers, enthusists, just talking the way all would do at the local pub or carshow.

Welcome! Regarding the Fk1000, it is certainly going to be a different look than the Gold Class, you'll either love it or hate it, but it certainly doesn't have the warm glow of GC.

My new ride is "Bright White Clearcoat" (actual color name)... having owned white vehicles before (and having owned a previous RAM several years back that was this color), the "warm glow" isn't really part of the equation. At this point in my life, I'm ready to get a durable, high-gloss shine with good, long-lasting protection. I just don't have the time to invest in quarterly full-bore paint care. I found the Megs Gold Class to be great for topping off the work - but it just didn't last. Still quite rewarding with the quality of finish...

My wife's vehicle is a "Silver Shadow Pearl" - though the pearl isn't real evident, no matter how hard I work on it. It frustrates me, as she bought it used, with enough flaws in the paint to drive me nuts - mostly parking lot-related yuck and bug/rock chips in front. She isn't wrapped up in keeping it real clean, either... so its hard to get motivated to invest the time in it so often as well... so again, even thought that vehicle will never bee a show-queen, A good, solid product like the FK 1000 seems like it would get the job done.

I'm not sure that I will be much of a contributor around here - FAR FAR more experience and know-how represented on this forum that I will ever aspire too - but I do hope to learn.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Cleaned off the Meg's Carnuba this afternoon, hit the RAM w/Meg's ultra "pre-wax" polish, then applied FK1000P.

Ran out of daylight...

Never had such a "wet" look! Like it!

I taped every bit of plastic & rubber trim before I started (didn't know how the polish would affect it- I got a few spots of the carnuba on a few places last time and worked my tail off trying to get it off!)

A couple of members had suggested the 1000P could be applied and immediately wiped off and it would look good... So I got brave and tried it. So far, so good.

Meg's slightly easier to take off ( very slight difference... Almost not worth mentioning).

Meg's jacks up plastic and rubber- 1000p does not (if you wipe off reasonably quickly).

1000p is much more "wet" looking (I like!)

1000p beads water better

I think I'm sold!
