New member here - learning to take care of my black Nissan GTR

Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for hours everyday (I'm on my laptop most of the day) learning way too many things from here so I figured I should join as well to participate/when I start having questions (just ordered a ton of things including a Porter Cable, Opti-seal, ONR, much more). I'm here to learn to properly take care of my 2010 black (<<< keyword) Nissan GTR after I still noticed some scratches and clear swirls after paying $200 for an ultimate detail (interior, hand wash, clay, polish, wax, sealant) from some professional detailers that had great reviews. They left some white residue over most of the car as well so it seems they rushed it, but the remaining scratches and swirls kept me up at night (and learning here). I think I'll practice on my dad's black Camry for starters though... :chuckle:

I will say the sheer number of options is overwhelming as I read hundreds of threads here trying to figure out what to buy. Also microfiber towels worry me the most as I scratched up my car with one when I first got it but going to invest in some high quality (Pakshak is what I read is preferred by many of the knowledgeable people here) ones now and learned from here to wash them separately (bought a specific detergent as well for them just to ensure it...) Those are just a few of the many things I've learned here already and always look for posts by Accumulator (better to have it dusty/dirty and wait to wash properly is some great advice that convinced me to never use that California car duster again) and Scottwax (I actually go to school in Arlington - UTA).

Welcome! You have your work cut out for you with that color. However there is very good news - MICRO FIBER PADS. You will love them on that paint. Keep it simple.

What polishes do you have?

BTW - $200 for a black car - and I'll assume this was a swirl removal detail? RUN next time. It was total waste. Live an learn.

Can you link me to a microfiber pad? I want to be sure what that is, thanks for the tip.

So far I am waiting on P40 Polish as I wasn't sure in that department yet what I needed, and I was already buying some things from Chemical Guys for my Porter Cable. I have Meguiars Ultimate Compound and SwirlX from a long time ago as well. I'm really not sure what I will need. They are mostly swirls but there is a scratch or two that I need to take care of as well.

It wasn't specifically for swirl removal, but it was their best offering which would give a "showroom shine" so I feel those should have been eliminated and probably should have been eliminated in the polish step from my understanding. They did an ok job that would please most people I guess but black shows all. Interior was a great job at least.

Meguiars 5" DA Microfiber Cutting Disc 2-Pack

If you ask me, the Optimum is much better quality.

Never heard of the polish you have, but try it. I'd only use 2 products to cut. Meg's 105 (dusts a lot) or HD UNO - the D 300 hides too much. That is a polish for the MF pads. To finish the job, try 205 with a finishing pad if you get 105, or just UNO and a finishing pad. A few months ago I used UNO/ MF pads on a black 2010 (I think) gtr. Cut very well. Makes your job easy. What wax do you have?

Welcome to Autopia!!You should consider starting another thread to drill into specifics on detailing your car. The welcome/greeting area doesn't get all that much action on that level.

Welcome aboard.

I have to admit, you drive one of my all time favorite cars, I'm jealous.

Post some pictures down the road.

Consider our line of products for your detailing needs.
