What’s up guys im Joe from CT I love detailing cars and trucks. I have been doing it since I was 17 when I got my first job in a body shop. My boss handed me a circular buffer and told me compound and glaze the tow wrecker which was black, I didn’t burn the paint any where and since then I love to detail. Most of the detailing I have been doing is to my own cars and friends. I have been doing it by hand but my birthday is coming up so I am going to pick up a PC 7424XP & CCS Foam Pad Kit for my first polisher

I have a couple questions for you guys. I am going to get my kit with 6.5 inch pads. Would you recommend I get a 5 inch or 6 inch backing plate? Also I have always used a velcro backing plate but this kit comes with a hook and loop. Which ones do you guys prefer? I have never used a hook and loop.

Welcome from another resident of CT.

Where ya from?

Hook and loop = velcro

IMHO if you're getting 6.5 pads get the 6" backing plate. It'll offer more stability.

Backing plate size is a matter of personal preference mainly. I'm with Ron, I like to use the 6" plate with 6.5 pads, however with a 5" plate you are able to use the low profile 5.5's which offer slightly better paint correction.

If I were choosing a PC kit, it would be the 5.5 kit with 5" backing plate. Cheaper and more versatile IMO.

Yes I am looking at getting the pc kit, it had the option of chosing bigger size pads and plate. If the smaller 5.5 offer better paint correction I will get my kit with them, plus its $15 cheaper

Here are some pics of the car I used to detail every weekend. My old 02 Z28
