New Megs Products

Let's not get cynical here. 6 car washes and 4 QD's...kind of adds to the fun of it, no?

No, it adds to the confusion of deciding what products to choose. I use and like several Megs products but feel they have to many products that seem to do the same thing. Now it's getting absurd.

David, coming from someone who is simplifying his own store, I would think you would be a little more critical of all those Gold Class brushes. I mean, they do look nice, and they seem reasonably priced, but to me, it's deviating from the core competency of the company. They don't MAKE brushes, after all, they make waxes/chemicals.

I hope they are going whole hog into brushes/applicators/MF's because their chemical business is going so well...not the other way around, because that is a sure route to going down the tubes...trying to pump up your core manufacturing business by selling a product you don't make.

Mike,

I was wondering the same thing but not necessarily because of the Gold Class detailing supplies.

I've read recently that automotive detailing by consumers is down when compared to a few years ago. There's a number of reasons why that is happening but couple that with an ever tighter retail competition and the online boutique businesses; I wonder how much it is impacting them.

It almost seems as though they are stretching themselves very thin and flooding the market with several products that all do the same thing and focusing on marketing rather than coming up with better products.

I've been a Meguiar's user for over 15 years (Pro line mainly) as it hasn't been until the last 2 years that I've found myself looking to other brands because of the confusing array of products they sell. Also, NXT in my opinion isn't as good as it's marketed.

With exception of Gold Class wax, they haven't really come out with a significant product in the past 10 years (in my opinion).

Sure we (Autopia) find old products and make them new again (No. 16 or Speed Glaze) but for the most part ... they haven't really made a noticable improvement to any of their formulations.

Their new detailer line looks interesting but not enough people have tried it to say it's worth it. However, once again, 1 APC diluted corrected could cover 2 or 3 of those separate items.

I believe less products and better quality.when you find out that a company has 4 different washes 4 different tire shines 3 different swirl removers ....ect it gets confusing. All this does with the new products is reinvent themselves a marketing ploy for more business once again I am not bashing MEGS just seeing through them.Yes I will buy a few of there items and if you ask why its because IM THE BIGGEST SUCKER GOING.....

It's almost like being in Vegas ..

too many packaging styles

too many products

too many things all doing the same thing

If avid enthusists like us find it confusing, I can not imagine what the average Joe must think when the walk up to a shelf and try and decide what Meguiar's product to buy.

Paco

This is why I have so much respect for Steve at PB .He makes one item and evey item he makes is QUALITY.YES swirl removers and others are 1,2,3 , you know what I mean.I really don't use a lot of his products but what ever I use in every situation works for me can MEGS say the same it gets real confusing at least to me it is

Only items that cought my eye were the nxt paste (i hope 16 isnt going byebye!) the MF drying towels (cheap cost per sq inch) the mf apps and the interior QD.

yeah, i dont understand the concept of a quick interior detailer, how long does it take to wipe down the interior w/ a damp mf towel, spritzed w/ ur favorite protectant. i just cant see the need for this. Oh well ,it will probably be the #1 selling interior QD in America :)

That's why they have to have all those products that do the same thing -- they couldn't possibly get it all written on ONE LABEL.:wavey

Hey, I take some of what I said back, that new Quick Detailer Interior, which I  at, says it works for both leather and vinyl...which is kind of handy when you are doing someone else's car, and you're not sure what's vinyl and what's leather
At the risk of sounding like I work for 303, which I don't, 303 touts working on both leather and vinyl. I used it on my cars that way.:wavey

Well, first, it doesn't say they have "waited 10 years to release" it says it took them 10 years to develop the product.

After 10 years of research and development into advanced polymer chemistry

Now, whoever was developing it for them could have really been working on it for 10 years. I don't think they're lying about this.

I'm happy Meguiars is releasing new products yearly. I've been waiting for new Mother's products for a few years as their stuff now is "good" but not great--but it leads me to believe they could make some very awesome products alongside their veteran products.

I've never seen all of Meguiars products in the same store. You have one or two GC, 3 or 4 consumer line, maybe 2 NXT products. You know, I really don't mind having t he freedom to choose. This is America :)

Megs has the best marketing in the world. They really Hype a product then it turns out to be just good.Do you really think they waited 10 years to release this wax,i don't think so but that is just me.Im sure there new products will be more hype. For those who think I am bashing MEGS im not I just know marketing from school and business

:up :up

To quote Oscar Wilde, "I wish I would have said that"

********, that is what this is, nothing revolutionary here, i was expecting something good, oh well, the only thing ill be wanting to try is the paste wax

In the past, if I or someone were to post their opinion of a product without ever first trying it, we would be tarred and feathered.

At first, when I heard about the new accessory line, I must admit I wasn't too excited. It's hard to get excited about a brush. That said, after seeing, feeling and holding all of these items first hand, I must say, I was impressed.

All of these tools are brand new designs. Meguiar's worked with an engineering company to design all new tools, not the same old stuff but in a different color.

I'll be holding a special event in the near future and I'll invite some Autopians to attend and see them first hand

Mike

In the consumer market it is all about competing for shelf space in places like the auto parts stores and the likes of WalMart, Target, etc.... By having a varied product line at different price points they increase their chances of getting that space. Last time I heard Meguiars was a "for profit" company. Seems these days success is considered a bad thing. :nixweiss

Nor would somebody here say that a brush was homosexual. I know I have to keep my tire brush and my carpet brush far away from eachother for this very reason....
