New M3 this Friday - What prods to use?

Well, after 7 days of owning my Black Mica '04 Mazda3, some 17 year old kid ran me over in his '04 Jeep TY and demo'd my car. Since it was so new and I had replacement insurance (and a good friend in the body shop to push for a write off) My new '04 comes in this Friday. It's a clone of my existing one, right down to the options.



Here's a pic of my ex-baby(this is the day after I detailed it, and a heavy rainstorm, and about 10 hours after her little accident)

I'm a big fan of Meg's products, but mostly the consumer versions of them, since I'm relatively new to the addiction that is detailing.



I'm looking for products that will really bring out the depth and shine in the black on the Mazda3. What i'm getting from reading the site is that I'd probably see good results with a product such as AIO, than a layer or two of P21S.



I was enticed by the products offered over at www.stufproducts.com though, and ordered the polish and wax just to experiement with.



So, any recommendations for the first go at my new one? I'm thinking of purchasing a PC in the near future as well, just to get that extra bit of buffing that you just cant seem to get by hand.

Nice Step up. Sonce its new I would probally go with either Speed Glaze or SFP both from Meguaires. They are a great step for cleaning the paint and removing swirls. Vanilla Moose from Clerkote would also be a great product. Any wax would do great. I use Pinnacle Souvern on my black Tahoe and love it. EX would be a great choice too. Just try some products and find what you like.
 
When you say new M3, do you mean BMW M3 or Mazda 3 ?

Assuming there will be no scratches you might want to consider AIO with your choice of topper or many people's new favorite combo - VM + EX-P.

Don't forget to clay.

i assume mazda..since that is not an BMW M3
 
Oops, acronyms can be a killer sometimes. I meant M3 as in Mazda3, not M3. The new one is actually a replacement for the old that got hit.



So, as P21S Carnauba seems to get the best ratings for durability and does well for shine as well, I'm good on that for wax. VM is a glaze correct?



Hmm.. so would you use VM, EX-P and top it off with P21S. I think we than cover glaze, sealant and wax.



Or would straight AIO with a P21S topper produce the same/better finish?
 
vm, ex-p. p21s would be a great combo. but the ex-p gives good durability so you could go with a wax with alittle better shine if you wanted.
 
Hey Yardik, :welcome to Autopia. Condolences on your old Mz3 :( , and congrats on the new one! :) If someone did that to mine, I wouldn't be able to enjoy its replacement for a while, since I'd most likely be in jail.



First thing to do (if you haven't already) is tell the dealership not to touch the car, even to remove its shipping protection -- and by all means NOT TO WASH IT or you'll refuse delivery! Dealer swirls on new (especially black) cars are sad but true.



I've never taken off shipping protection, so hopefully someone else can chime in on that. Normally though, the first step is of course to wash the car with a good car soap. A search will turn up wonders here -- a favourite is 1z Perls shampoo, which you can get at the Autopia store. While you're "there," pick up a clay bar, and use that as your next step to remove pollutants in the paint (rail dust etc.)



Since you have Stuf's polish and wax already (or on the way), why not start with that? -- it's quickly getting a very good rep here. Then you could relax and do some more reading and looking at pics of various combos, while your new car is protected and gleaming, and choose your next combo at your leisure.

A search on "stuf" will turn up more, of course.



BTW, I don't think p21s is noted for its durability -- my understanding is quite the opposite, in fact. (p21s and s100 are the same wax, BTW, but s100 is marketed to the bike gang at half the cost.) What they are noted for are their beauty, and as great "toppers" for many products.

I wouldn't consider P21s as durable, it's more of a beauty wax. If you want a long lasting wax on top of your EX-P you might want to give Megs #16 a try, probably lasts twice as long and should bead nicely for a couple of months.



I would consider the #16 if you are only putting AIO underneath to give you some durability.

Hmm. Well, I'm itching to try out the Stuf, so I will indeed start with that. I'll look into picking up some VM, EX-P and P21S for my second go at detailing it.

WOW, I thought you were getting on hell of an upgrade going from a Mazda 3 to a M3....LOL



This is kind of off topic, but being a Mazda 3 owner myself I'm kind of interested, How fast was the Jeep going when he hit you?
 
On my black BMW M3 I have been very happy with Klasse without topping with a wax. This is Speed Glaze, AIO, Klasse Sealant x3.

He was coming down a pretty steep hill at around 80KM/h , he was a young guy with little driving experience... he panicked and locked up his breaks instead of slowing properly. We made contact at 40-50KM/h. He than shoved me a good 20ft into the intersection and spun me around.



I can say one thing for sure, the Mazda 3 crumples quite well, and that probably saved me some severe whipplash. I walked away with not a scratch on me and wasn't even stiff the day after.

Glad to hear you came through that unscathed. That's a good testimonial to the Mazda's design.
