New Logo!!!!

And I didn`t mention it, but when you amortize the minimal 1-time expense of a logo, it`s really nothing over a period of years you stay in business...providing one is to stay in business for several years.

Granted, some may want to "refresh" their logo in time as sometimes a refresh is a good change, but in most cases, your logo defines you and you may not really want to change it...especially if you get what you wanted from your designer initially.

I`ve changed my logo some over the years, but it`s my profession and I like change. LOL

never get a second chance to make a first impression

It`s been a while since I`ve been on here and I just stumbled upon this...wish I`d have seen this and could`ve replied sooner.

That may seem like a lot of money to you (or even others), but this is a business that you will hopefully be taking very seriously and you should want to put your best foot forward. Is my pricing higher than some...yes. Is it cheaper than some...yes.

Bottom line is, I`ve been a graphic designer for over 25 years now and am a professional...not some fly-by-night, punk-kid designer...not some overseas "logo factory" that whips up meaningless designs in minutes and charges $50-200.00 for a design that may be replicated again tomorrow for another detailing company. EVERY logo I design is unique to each customer, based on your needs and wants after i converse with you a bit about what you`re after. I spend many hours researching your business name for any others that may exist by that same name elsewhere, so that I am positive that what I design will be 100% unique to you. I strive for a great job because it`s not just your business on the line, but my reputation as well. I want to continue to be successful, so I will continue to grow my design business as well.

Now is my logo going to guarantee your success? Absolutely not. That comes from you, your drive, your passion, your reputation, and your quality of work. But what my logo will do is set you apart from the lackluster, average joe`s with a poor logo design or someone who just uses a "font" from their "Word" software and thinks it`s "good enough".

So when you have been in business for 25+ years and have made a boatload of cash, that measly $450.00 will seem like `peanuts` in the grand scheme of things. And it will have been that iconic logo that helped to "brand" you and helped to grow your business, setting you apart from your competition.

Please don`t mistake my answer here as me being upset, as I`m not. I just want others to realize that as with anyone in their career, as you achieve more success, you can charge more for your services. Many of you detailers are likely the same.

I started this 25 years ago doing logo design for free, and then for 25-50.00 for many years...striving to build my portfolio and my reputation...trying to "get my name out there". After about 10 years, I slowly started increasing my prices a bit. A bit later than that, I upped them again as I was trying to weed out the guys who just wanted "cheap" but wanted me to put in countless hours for them with change after change, and in the end, I "lost" money.

My price is my price. Word of mouth gets around and many people continue to refer me, and about 90% of my business is repeat customers because they know my quality and trust my workmanship.

I`ll stop down from my soap box for now. Again, I`m not trying to be a jerk, just explaining why my pricing is what it is.

I would rather spend $1,000 dollars on a professional logo than have a $1,000 detail. Even if I didn`t know how to detail. A logo represents your business before most people ever see your face or hear your voice. Especially in the Internet/social media age. As stated earlier, you only get one chance at a first impression.

I agree

I can do the 1k detail myself! the logo- no chance!!!

It`s funny how some detailers say "wow, $450 is way too much!" Haven`t you all been through this? I`m sure we all have. Your customer says "wow, you charge X for a detail/wash? I could get my car washed for $7 down the street!

I`m sure if you`re a professional detailer you`ve been there, done that and understand that quality costs more money.

Hey Tony, look through some of his other posts........ That attitude carries through a lot of em....

We decided to use Tony based on referrals and will continue to use Tony because of the obvious craftsmanship. However, you get more than just a logo. Tony is extremely easy to work with, follows through with every project, provides updates about the project, and provides honest feedback and suggestions. His passion reflects in his work and communication. My only suggestion is to give him as much info and detail as possible, it will make it way easier for both parties. But wait there`s more! Tony can do t-shirt design, business card design, flyers, postcards, and much more. If you`re not sure where to order stuff from he can assist with that as well.

And be sure to check the Asphalt Army website and Facebook page.

I`m thankful that my wife is a graphic designer but it still hasn`t brought out a logo for me as we just cant agree. i want something that "pops" and all, but she says she needs more info, so there is a communication problem between us. And i know in my town the other shop has a "car" in their logo and I`m trying to brand myself as better than them as they have a lot of unhappy customers due to lack of care of the person running it now. If people want some kind of basic stuff done or don`t like my price, I`ll send them to them because I`m geared for high quality work. In fact I have several customers who went there before coming to me and they keep telling me and others they will never go back now that they`ve seen what a quality job looks like.

But yes the colors on the black background really do pop.

Hey Tony, do you work with other designers to get logos done or is that something you`ld rather not do?

Thanks so much for the kind words, Richard. I really appreciate it!

Communication is one of the biggest keys to good design. You, as the customer, have to be able to explain to the designer what you`re looking for, unless you have no real thoughts or desires, in which case you then allow the designer`s expertise to steer you in the right direction. As a designer it`s our job to ask questions and do some research to help provide you something unique, different, and eye-appealing.

I`m certainly not saying your wife`s not capable, I`m saying to arm her with your thoughts and ideas, and then trust her to do her thing. If it`s not 100% to your liking, explain what it is you don`t like, or what you think is missing. But also know that as a designer, we design things with certain reasons in mind, so while you may not think it looks right to you, think about the perception to your customer. What will they see? Will they easily recognize and remember it? Is it simple and easy to read at a glance? Does it `stick` in your/their mind? A logo needs to be simple and clean to be effective. The more detailed and cluttered it gets, the less effective it can be and less easy to read.

I typically like to design 100% on my own, that`s how I ensure the quality I provide. However if you`d like me to take a look at your wife`s ideas, I can certainly give you some thoughts/feedback and maybe help you to get what your looking for. If your wife`s been doing this a long time, I`m sure she`s on the right track.
