new kid on the block (sort of)

Hello everyone. Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and say thanks for all the great advise. I've been reading the forums for some time, but never felt quailified to post. I'm Joe, and have I the misfortune to live in the Midwest. St. Louis to be specific. Long, gray, cold, wet winters. I drive a black 2002 Ford Taurus. A grocery getter I know, but man, is it clean. More than anything, it was good to discover clean freaks like myself. Too many times my wife came through the garage and just rolled her eyes at me. It's reassuring to know there are others like me out there. Quite a few as a matter of fact. Over the years I've gone from washing with dish soap and drying w/ a bath towel to having cabinets full of products in the garage. Using paint cleaners, polishes, glazes... Love the micro fiber. Just ordered a Big Blue this morning. Should have it next week. Giving up on the Absorber. Always leaves streaks. Nothing more relaxing and theraputic then spending a few hours on the car. Only thing better is when someone else notices how nice it looks. Sorry to ramble on. Thanks again for all the advice.

Hey Joe, welcome aboad! Glad to have you post!

If I can ever give you any personal help be sure to look me up! I am in St. Louis, too and have hundreds of supplies that you are welcome to sample if you ever need to. It's a sure way to tempt you to buy more goodies! :D Sometime this Spring or early summer I will have another Concours Tips and Tricks event coming up. Stay tuned for that. It's a lot of fun! I bet that "grocery getter" sparkles better than some Ferraris I've seen. That's what this forum can do for your car!

Tips and Tricks 2002

Welcome! You are around your type of people now. We all get those looks from our significant others. My wife works with me when I'm detailing other cars and even she looks at me that way when I'm working. lol Have fun! :xyxthumbs

Brad,

This looks like an interesting read.... Any extra copies around???

blktaurus- Welcome to Autopia! I respect a guy who uses a black car for his daily driver all year long! You'll find the BBT a real improvement.

That is EXACTLY how I feel.

Like Dale said, you live near Brad, I don't want to tell you to drop into Brads house at dinner time but I do know he has detailing buddies over during the summer just to exchange war stories and so forth, he's a pretty smart guy when it comes to detailing and it seems like he's willing to help. Shoot him a message sometime and welcome to the forum.

I thought I was into detailing but alot of these people on this forum are alot more dedicated than I!

Ha! That's exactly what my wife calls the ever flowing stream of cars in and out of the garage at my house..."it's just another detailing buddy"! I think my neighbors enjoy the constant car show!:D

The kids around your hosue must love it when you have your buddies over, something about cars and young kids, they just gel together.

There is a huge expo center where I used to live, for 2 summers they set up an auto-x course and jeepers, I would get there at 9 am and stay all day until they stopped running the course.

You should see us when all of the Camaro's and Firebird's get together, everyone puts on a show and has a blast.

When I had last years Tips and Tricks there were over 80 people and 60 cars in attendance. It was like an Auto Festival in my neighborhood. I was afraid the police were going to show up. I had neighbors and onlookers coming by to admire the cars. Joggers stopped jogging, dog walkers dropped their leashes, and I think a baby in a stroller uttered its first word:"ccccooool!":D

Brad,

Thats awesome. I know exactly what your talking about. I have hosted 2 meets at my last for the 300zx club that I am part of. On both occassions, I had over 20 Z's at my house. All the neighbors could do was stare. It was funny.

On one of the meets, we did a cruise through Valley Forge National Park (22 Z's). All of us were in a line cruising through the historic sites. It was amazing how joggers, onlookers, etc just stopped and stared :D

blktaurus,

Welcome to Autopia!!! :xyxthumbs

This place is full of people like you, heck we are all obsessed detailers!

Re: drying the car, I use a leaf blower to blow all the excess water off the car before I blot and dry the remainder with 2 big blue towels. It works great.

Cheers

I really appreciate the warm welcome. There's a lot more for me to learn here. I'll look for more information on the 2003 Concours Tips and Tricks. If for no other reason, just to see that garage in person. Thanks again and THINK SPRING!
