New hose setup

Well, to go along with my all-new-for-spring detailing setup (new products, PC, and much knowledge gleaned from the halls of DC), I got myself a good setup for a wash hose too. I picked up the idea of the section of hose cut off at the end so there's no metal pointing at the vehicle out of another thread here. Then got a brass quick disconnect with shut-off from Home Depot, a spare male connector, and a nice nozzle.

Using this setup, I don't even need an inline on/off. When using the rinse hose, and I'm done with it, I just pop it off the qd, and the water is shut off. When I need water again, just pop it back on and go.

Parts used from Home Depot:

1 Brass Quick Disconnect with Shutoff
1 Male Brass Quick Disconnect Adapter
1 Hose End Repair Kit (to put a new fitting on the end of the hose that I cut off, the end not pictured)

The only thing that would worry me is the metal couplings being so close to the car.

Have you noticed a drop in the water pressure out of the nozzle at all due to diameter reduction around the connections? I faced this problem a while ago and ditched it after a couple of washes but my water pressure here at home (a renter) is nothing to brag about either.

Re: Bob

That's why I like these brass qd's, they're rubber coated, so even if I would manage to somehow bonk it against the car, it's just rubber. That's also the reason for using the 2' section of hose with no end on it, that way it's nothing but rubber facing the vehicle.

Re: AMDin93103

You shouldn't really see a drop in pressure, per se, just flow rate out the hose. If you're using the nozzle, any setting you'd put it on has a much smaller opening than the qd anyway, so that wouldn't affect it. For just the hose though, if you already have a low flow rate with the faucet full open, it might restrict it a tad. Though not much, I wouldn't think, these particular qd's have a fairly unrestricted flow. Their inside diameter is fairly close to the ID of the hose.
