New Guy question, Really need some help

Im gettin damn close to just saying bugger it and going out and getting a rotary.
For the person that will invest the time to learn to use it correctly, a rotary is probably the tool of choice for a pro or a really dedicated enthusiast detailer.
Those that know how to use them would never want to be without one.

While I am certainly no expert on the PC, I would definitely buy a 5" velcro backing plate. Either the 4 Star one or the Meguiar's one. Based on my experience with Meguiar's pads, (Good), and a 5" backing plate, it would seem the 6" plate would be too close to the edge of the pads and might do some damage to some part of your vehicle.

Whoa! Now I'm really confused. So since the pads are 6.5" I shouldn't use the 6" backing pad? If I put the 5" backing plate on I'll have to buy a 5" counterweight too. Maybe I just by the 7424 after all. Wouldn't you know it was on sale up to the 18th of April.

Is anyone out there using a 7336? Opinions?

The 7336 with 6" counterwight, 5" Meguiar's velcro backing plate, and 6.5" Meguiar's pads has worked great for me since last October. I see no reason why it shouldn't work for you, as well.

Ive got the 7636 and it too stops rotating if you put any pressure on it.

I've just tested the PC and it's so soft! takes a life to break in anything! (comparing to the rotary) So easy to use, but at speeds above 4 it started rotating, isn't that normal? Something to avoid? It's just that with the rotary, when the product start to break, I usually reduce the pressure and let it spin faster, isn't this the case with the DA?

The 7336 is available at Lowe's for $109 every day.

Unfortunately, I'm in Canada, so Lowes and online shopping from the US isn't an option. Anyone know where I can order one from in Canada?
Does Home Depot carry them? The 7224 doesn't seem to exist in Canada.

Any Canadian detailers out there? Where can we get all the great products mentioned on the board in Canada?

As far as rotary buffers go I own a DeWalt DW849. It is the best DeWalt model since it has a variable speed dial that adjusts from 1000 up to 3000 rpm's, and the trigger is variable so that I can slowly start spinning the thing instead of a trigger that just turns it on at full set speed.

Its also got a module in it to maintain full speed even under a full load.

I have used the nicest Makita and I like it too. I liked the handle design. It wrapped around the whole top of the machine allowing a user to get a quick hold on it anywhere, unlike mine and others that have a post typw handle that is movable to one side ot the other. The Makita seems lighter and a little smaller but I am not sure.

I know the Milwaukee is a popular machine and whats nice about it is the detachable cord system. I have many Milwaukee tools and the cord system is awesome. The Milwaukee is a heavy machine but I think that kinda is a preference for the user.

CharlesW....I would agree with that completely! That is the nice thing about the Lake Country pads (hopefully Dwayne will be getting them in soon). On the Lake Country VC pads, the backing plate sits recessed into the back of the pad a bit and is surrounded by the foam pad all around. Very nice! With those pads you can push the pad up into crevices (like around mirrors) without worrying about the backing plate hitting anything. Plus, since they are an inch larger than the Megs they help you get done a tad faster.

Still, the Meg's pads have served me very very well. They are inexpensive and seem to be indistructable.
