New guy confusion on layering....

Hi everyone...Ive been reading some of my search results about layering products and how long to wait in between however, since there are a lot of different colors and ages of vehicles Im confused about what I should do for my new vehicle.

Situation: Around 15 Sept I will be taking delivery of a 2004 Brilliant Silver M-B CLK 500. I have bought the "Perfect Shine" kit from this site. I figured as a newbie this would be a good place to start experimenting with these products.

Question: After I do the standard prep work the instructions are to use AIO, P21S topped with Sonus detailing spritz. With that particular color and being new should I stick with just one coat of AIO? If not how many and how long between applications? Same question for the P21S.

Has anyone used these products on that color? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all, this is a great forum.

AIO is a cleaner, so it will not layer. The benefit of a second layer is that it catches areas that may have been missed with the fisrt coat. P21S is a carnauba, and there are many lines of thought on whether or not carnauba layers. I would do AIO x2, then put a coat of P21S on. I'd apply P21S on a monthly basis, but your situation may be different.

oh yeah...

As Scott mentioned, even with products that don't layer... two coats can always be good to catch any missed spots and remove anything that was missed the first time.

I've had good experience with layering carnuba's (as long as there are no cleaners in it, think you're okay with P21S). Depending on the color it will give a deeper shine... use your judgment as your results may vary depending on the car.

And of course, if you like the way it looks, keep doing it :)

Scott P...where are you in Rochester. I left there in 1977 when I joined the Navy and never missed the winters. :)

Nebraska99 I will be very interested in your results with Klasse on a brand new vehicle as I have had incredible results with our silver VW's.

I really don't think you will go further than the AIO and SG. In my own experiences the end results have been perfect and in my mind any further action could only have had a negative effect-my opinion on our cars only.

I believe the most important action to take prior to delivery is to NOT allow the dealer to do anything other than wash the vehicle and to do a complete inspection so you will know for certain what your efforts produced.

For a vehicle that large (and magnificent) allow alot of time, at least several days, that boy has got to have the surface area of both my Jetta and my wifes Passat combined-and then some. Yep, three days and a case should just about do ya.

Good luck and be prepared to be amazed at what I am certain will be your results.

I went and read DavidB's direction on The Perfect Shine, and he says that it's okay to use Sonus QD over the P21S. While I'm sure David wouldn't tout anything he hasn't proven for himself, howcome Sonus says not to put their product over a carnauba?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Its okay to use the Sonus spritz over the P21S carnauba because it pretty much wears off fast so basically its just shining up the AIO......well thats what DavidB responded. I had the same question.

I'll let you know how it turns out once my CLK 500 gets here.
