Guys

Can you confirm, when you talk about washing your car with Dawn, do you mean Dawn Dishwashing Detergent??

The reason being to strip the paint as much as possible to prep

it for a paint cleaner, polish and wax????

Sorry if it seems to be a stupid ? but being downunder, Dawn in the USA might be different to Dawn in Australia.

Cheers

Shane

You are very correct, welcome. There are no stupid questions here. But if you can find cute girl named Dawn to do it for ya, then you're luckier than most :)

Cheers

Talk about a quick response!!!

How's the weather over there? In Melbourne Aust ,summer is just starting, should be getting temps around 40ºC (I think over 115ºF).

Anyway it's that time of the year to get the car in the most reflective state, before she melt's.

Have great X-Mas

The reason we recommend Dawn specifically is because it doesn't leave as much of a film as other detergents (namely the ones with "leaves your hands soft" moisturizers) so you may not have to wash with car shampoo afterwards. I still do though.

I love Australia! Been there 3 times, 2 that I can remember and it is awesome! Great weather, nice people, good public transportation, good sight seeing not to mention the nude beaches and pretty ladies

Hehe

Does the salt on the roads cause much damage to your vehiches paint work?

I now know the reason on why the heated seat option is not a big seller in the Jeeps over here.

It's December 21 and my area had a high temperature of 90 degrees today. I tell you all that snow and ice are just myths that have been fabricated by the news media. However, the local meteorologists are forcasting a cold front to FINALLY come in tomorrow. Finally! I can't wait to see the temperatures dip in the 50s so that I can wear some of my leather jackets. I need to get my money's worth out of those darn things.

Shane,

Welcome to the Forum, about the best darn place to find out how to treat the finish on your car.

The guys are right. We use the original forumla dawn to strip off the wax and oils from other finishes we apply to our paint. The Dawn seems to clean down to the clear coat and does not leave any residue.

I have noticed that the original Dawn product has had something new added to the label. It says "new fast acting".......Hmmmm. Does this mean that they have added a softener or a silicone oil for sheeting? Just in case I stashed away a big bottle of it, with the original label. I doubt the first original formula will be on the shelves much longer. After all gotta' make those dishes shine, also!

As far as the weather in upstate N.Y., it's 24 and a nice fresh west wind. Wind chill is about 16 right now. That's in Farenheit, by the way. No snow on the ground, (it all melted,) but the forecast is for a little on Christmas eve.

115 degrees is mighty hot, (except for DonG2000,) that will melt any carnauba right off your car! I hope you use a sealant. If not, read the archives and the detailing tips. A wealth of information is to be had.

Welcome, and Happy Holidays! Enjoy!

Dawn dish washing detergent the little blue bottle like said above!

Just wanted to say HI!

Don't really know how I found PAC/TID, but because of it, I'm getting back into the fun.

Even (finally) purchased a DA, etc from PAC last month. Been wanting on since I first saw in a Meg catalog some years back. Sure beats the stuffin' out of using the $29 wax spreader and 'wax on/wax off' method.
