I just upgraded to the Flex 3401, its a bit different from the PC, also has a small learning curve, at least for me. After about 30 minutes, I think I have it under control. It tries to walk around on you, its a little heavier, but it doesn't vibrate as bad as the PC. Overall, it is a great purchase. :heelclick



The only thing that I didn't like is my Lake County CCS 5.5 Pads don't fit, which I have about 10 of, maybe I can trade them out.

The backing plate, is a good quarter to a half inch bigger than the pads, I wouldn't take a chance using them.



I would not rule out some kind of trade.
 
Is anyone else finding this odd. Mine fit my Flex perfectly. Why is his problematic?



What pads do you have, how many, and in what shape?
 
I fit a 5" pad on my Flex but there was no overhang like with the 6.5" pads. I don't see what the problem is with 5.5" pads. I think the backing plate is only 5". Perhaps a measurement is in order...

The FLEX has forced rotation, up to 480 RPMS; in addition to the rotary-like rotations it ALSO has random orbital movement like a PC. The end result is a fairly powerful yet still quite safe tool that is FAR more capable of removing paint defects.



It's not quite a rotary, but you can achieve many results formerly not possible with a PC, with the FLEX...but expect to spend a lot more time than you would using a rotary.

From the looks of things your CCS pads are 5". Have you measured them?

The CCS Pads measure 5", I assumed when I bought all of them, they were 5.5", I wouldn't want to take a chance using them, with the backing plate hanging past the pad, one quick slip and the plate hits the paint. :sosad

Please define quite safe on the Flex. I am very close to an upgrade but the worse I use is Poorboys 2.5 on Orange pads. Would I burn paint with this set up? I know it is almost impossible with a PC even set to 6 to burn paint. Thanks for your input.
 
While it's not impossible to burn paint with a PC or a FLEX you have to really work at it!!



The FLEX forces you to use good mechanics. That's why you are getting pulled around the car. It did the same thine to me when I first got mine. You will get the hang of it!!



I switched from a PC and have been very happy wit the change!! Details go a lot faster and the work is a lot better as well!!



Just make sure you are using a "heavy duty" enough extension cord!! Mine was shutting down due to "line loss" and it was very perplexing till I figured it out!!
