New ferarri 458

definitely a head turner.... the three exhaust pipes puzzles me too..

Three exhaust pipes first debuted on the F40, as one pipe was used for the turbo blow off (I think).

Modern Ferrari's have a valve that opens at full throttle that makes it like a straight pipe. The 3rd pipe on the 458 is supposed to be a more efficient version of that feature.

Supply and Demand: Perhaps no company understands this better than Ferrari.

Actually a pure economist (I say pure in that this economist would not consider external factors in this situation, for example the nostalgia and rarity Ferrari likes to keep with its brand) would say that Ferrari does not understand supply and demand. A pure economist would say that supply and demand states that Ferrari is either A) selling the car for atleast 50K too little since a used one can be turned around and sold for a higher price or B) is not producing enough vehicles. Again, this is what classic supply and demand economics would attest.

While I understand why Fiat (I think that is who owns Ferrari now???) produces fewer than what the market will buy to maintain the exclusiveness of owning a Ferrari (the exact same thing DeBeers in South Africa does with diamonds) but I am suprised they don't up the price to add even more exclusivity to the brand?

You are 100% correct, but pure economist have ruined just about every major car company in the world. Ferrari, for being as tiny as they are, are HUGELY profitable. Most car companies lose money, despite playing by the rules.

Increase price, you lower demand (and kill the used car market).

Increase supply too much and you loose a major part of the brand (and kill the price) and maybe even the demand.

Ferrari is one of the most profitable car companies in the world, despite being tiny, and pouring a huge amount of money in F1 racing. Most big companies have had to pull out of F1 because they cannot afford it.

Perhaps I should have stated, "No companies breaks the rules of supply and demand better ;)

I would say the major car companies got to where they are today due to the short sightedness of management and the union bosses. Management only worrying about the company's earning quarter to quarter (rather than long term) since that is what the stock market looks at and unions just assuming they can continue as usual not realizing the auto world around them is changing and they must adjust too, even if doing so hurts.

One of my customers is on the list for this...Cant wait :drool5:

take alot of pics of that detail

I have to go by the Ferrari Dealer down the road from me and see what's new there.......:drool5:

make sure you check to see if you have moved up the waiting list when you are there. Last time I was there they had the new Alfa and it was beautiful.

I have driven a bunch (and pulled a ton in and out garages) and here is my thoughts...

Driving them stinks because I am so scared of what could happen that I never relax. However I did take a 550 through South Beach and that as surreal.

Pulling them in and out of garages is TERRIBLE with out a spotter. I will seriously get out and look 5 times to make sure I am not going to hit anything or run over anything. Even on the 430 spiders, I feel like I need to stand on the seat to see anything. And if it is a 355 or 360 with the F1 tranny, they keep shifting to neutral if you wait too long which makes it a PITA.

And honestly detailing them is just like detailing any other car, as it is all paint from 2 inch's away. You don't get to enjoy it until your done, and usually you are too tired to enjoy it.

I did get to go for a full blast ride in a 430 Scuderia two days ago, and it was amazing!!!

Are you even nervous during the detail Todd? Even at your level. I would be very nervous but I am no where close to your level thou.

This is the most underrated post in history!!! Coming straight from the guy who posted pictures of himself doing donuts in a Ferrari F40....:rofl:

Broker99- I get far far more nervous pulling them in and out of a garage then I do putting a polisher on them.

I have to say im a fan sort of. While I was growing up in my younger years of course I was a huge fan of Lamborghini's. Who wasnt! But as I got older, wiser and more evolved in F1 racing, I really took a liking to Ferrari's Now if thats the one car company i cant stop reading about. I love everything about them, hell on the wall of my kitchen I have a huge framed poster of a 360 Challenge Stradale.

:drool5:

i like the new Ferrari's but no where near how much I like the old ones. A 355 GTB 6 speed is truly my dream car. Red on tan interior please, less than 30K Miles with all documentation. No F1 transmissions here, well maybe if I had a 360 CS or a 430 Scuderia :drool5:

The new ones are getting way to concept car looking for me. Dont get me wrong if I had the money I would definitely buy one! But nothing beats the classic look of these:

Truly there is nothing that beats the Styling of a classic Ferrari except maybe an 30's Bugatti or something along those lines. I get chills just looking at these pictures. I LOVE every single one of them, just like a Testarossa, you see one and you instantly know what it is, even the youngest children to the elderly usually know what it is. Pininfarina and Enzo Ferrari were truly amazing. The cars that were designed and built from the 40's-mid 90's are works of art in my mind. Cars of today for the most part of so lacking. It brings us up to date with the new California/458 both are pretty cool but nothing like a 375 Pan America were there was only a handful every built plus only 15 left in the world today.

I could ramble on for forever haha

PERFECTION:
