New CMA Magic Towel Review with Pics

CMA some time recently introduced a more refined version of their highly regarded Magic Towel which now has silk edging and 221,000 threads per square inch. I tried it and was impressed.



Here's the towel pic with some Z-8 I had just used:

Results on quarter panel of Z-8 using the Miracle Towel:

Conclusions:



1. Very soft and dense fibers make for wonderful plush towel for QD, final buff, and interior work.

2. Decent price at $9.99 for package of 2 (on sale now).

3. Nice dark blue border.

4. Tag left on which is a no-no but is easily removed.



Highly recommended.



I also got the CMA Dragon Fiber Glass Cleaning Towel and it works very well also.

But what separates this one from the few other super plush, silk lined MF's out there?!



As far as I'm concerned, there are only so many S. Korean MF manufacturers out there and I have strong feeling that many competing vendors get them from the same place, pick a different color and attach their own name to it.



I love the Mircale Towel (have a bunch) but have found other IDENTICAL S. Korean, silk lined made towels like it that look, perform, feel and hold up the same.



Personally, I have curtailed my MF purchasing as I always get drawn into buying new towels that apear on the market. I bought those new Mango MF's at Autoggek - TOTAL garbage!
 
But what separates this one from the few other super plush, silk lined MF's out there?!

Good question...



Softer than PB Mega Deluxe (another great towel) but still not quite as nice as the PakShak plush towels.
 
I might add some thoughts since I collect a lot of mf and test them out frequently...



1. Detailing vendor MF quality is improving and what separates the best from the second best is getting narrower.



2. You don't have to spend a whole lot but the premium priced towels are usually better made and softer on the paint.



3. The Sam's Club work towels are dirt cheap but effective for general chores.



4. MicroRestore (cheapest is the gallon at CMA) really does clean MF well and better than my Tide HE or anything else I have tried including Charlie's Soap although that is good also.



5. I definitely recommend the use of edgeless towels for wax/sealant removal - that is the most effective for the task.



6. Waffle weave seems to be the best for glass and drying the car.



7. Short nap deluxe towels like the PakShak UltraSmooth seem to work best on spray sealants (Z8) and spray carnaubas like Crystal Mist as well as Spray & Wipe and others...



8. Tagless is essential. If they have them, then cut them off when you get the towel. I also like to wash my towels once before use.
 
Have you ever tried the VIKING Drying Towel? If you have, would you mind comparing to the Miracle Towel? It looks very similar to this Miracle Towel, and available OTC inexpensively.
 
I have a Viking drying towel but it's a waffle weave so the comparison won't work well. Also, this towel is not meant for drying use.



I've seen the plush drying towel from Viking as well but it is no where near as well made or as soft. I don't believe the fiber count is as high either.
 
Chemical guys has a towel that could be the exact same towel, I love them just got 3 for 9 bucks last week. The microfiber cleaner they sell for 24 bucks a gallon cant be beat either.



Its odd how all these products come out at the same time, spray waxes, new towels, makes me even more sure that chemical guys ( and others) are selling the same products at a fraction of the cost.



I love my Sonus towels but for the price I could by 4 or 5 from chem guys........

I have the micro-restore and it seems to me that liquid tide cleans the heaver soiled MFs better. How much of the MR do you use? I use 2oz for a small load.
 
Except for the silk edging, that towel looks exactly like the Cobra Super-Plush Deluxe mf from autogeek. I have a few of those and can see no other difference. After having looked at the Viking towels at O'Reilly's yesterday, I'm going to try them next.

1 ounce per load. The Tide will get some heavy stains out but overall MR works best for me.

I have that one too and they are similar. The Miracle feels softer to me however.

I'm not going down this road again but CG does not make every detailing product out there. There may be some common South Korean textile mills but then we don't know if there is pure rebranding in even that event or if the design is custom.
 
I don't think that CG sells microfiber to other vendors, but I think that many vendors are getting it from the same supplier. Clearly the VIKING, Cobra, CG, and SMP get their microfiber from the same source...and it is some damn good MF. For instance, look at the Cobra Bone and the CG Chubby Wash Sponge --they even have the same close-up reference pic!



I was talking about the plush blue VIKING Drying towel, as I use it for everything except drying. I find that the VIKING blue Drying towel is actually slightly softer than the Cobra Super-Plush, and the VIKING has silk edging instead of MF edging.



Would you mind elaborating on why it is "not as well made"? Also, what does fiber count have to do with the quality of a towel? We are evaluating on softness and other qualitative comparisons; the fiber count could be made up for all we know.



Have you tried the green VIKING QD towel? If so, can you please compare to the Miracle Towel?

The Viking towel is nice but the PakShak and CMA towels seem better constructed and softer to me.

With microfiber, the more threads the better from a softness and cleaning ability standpoint. You can tell that the CMA and PakShak towels have higher fiber counts if you look at them under a microscope and by just using them for final buffing and QDing activities.



I do think the Viking stuff is a good value. If that works for you then by all means don't let my comments discourage you. I've just tested most of the microfiber out there and have some strong opinions on quality and overall performance.

Viking themselves sent me a bunch of towels to review, do a search for it. I posted my comments there.
 
I might add that one issue I have with Viking was the included tag. I told the Viking rep and they said they would think about removing it.

Looks like he meant Magic Towel.



Looking at the pics on the site, it seems this has a sewn-in tag as well...is that the case??
 
I still find it hard to beat the old thick all cotton towels. It's easy to get sucked in to all this so called miracle stuff but the problem is that next month something else will be claiming to be the best.

I just started using the Micro fiber towels and have some real nice old cotton towels. So far I'm not impressed by the Micro towels and CAN"T honestly say that I see any improvement. In fact I still really like the cotton towels. Mike
