New Car!!

Paint Ph.D
It was totally unexpected but my trusty '04 Santa Fe finally suffered the 'big one'...the transfer case is failing and that's $3,700 we simply can't justify spending. So on Thursday we signed the papers on a brand-new 2010 Santa Fe Limited with front wheel drive. So far I absolutely love it and it's so much better than the original the only thing they share is the name. My new one has a sunroof, leather, heated seats, Bluetooth, XM, iPod connection and a whole lot more. So far I'm only getting 16 mpg but Hyundais are known for getting piss-poor mileage until the engines get properly worn in so I'm not concerned. My '04 barely got 14 mpg when it was new so I know it'll get better eventually.

The color is called Harbor Gray Metallic and the paint seems to be of a very high quality with almost no orange peel to speak of. :yay I will post some better photos (and update my avatar) once it stops raining. They are calling for clearing on Tuesday so keep your fingers crossed for me!

As you can tell, there is virtually NOTHING the new one shares in common with the old one other than the name.

It's really not as brown as these pictures make it look. For the most part it looks black with just a splash of brown and is so much better than the beige leather they offer. :ugh:

A household style plug in the cargo area!! Not sure what I'll use this for. :ponder:

Call me old-fashioned but I insisted on no navigation. I have no use for it and I prefer a simple screen and physical buttons. It's just easier....

I am really going to keep the mileage down on this girl; aiming for 10,000 to 12,000 a year.

They did a really good job with the fake wood if you ask me...

I just love this screen. When I revert to manual control the system likes to switch to recirculate for some reason so I just leave it on auto now and it works just fine.

Congratulations on the new vehicle.
I bought a new car last year it is a year old this month and I have put 1100 miles on it to date.
Don't look like I needed it very bad does it. :D
I will soon be putting it up for the winter.

I just finished redoing the undercoating on the Explorer it will see a lot of use this winter.

Congratz on your new ride!!! The Santa Fe sure has come a long way. I especially like the inverted power outlet in the back.

Congrats! I actually work as a Technician for hyundai, and they are pretty good vehicles. Just make sure you get that intermediate shaft recall done if it hasnt been taken care of already, (depends on the build date) as its been taking out transmissions quick and they are hard to get.

Hope you love the car! I just bought a 2.0t Premuim Lime Rock green genesis coupe that i get to pick up monday myself.

Congo rats on the new wheels. How many miles did you get out of that transfer case? Heard that was a bit of a weak point on those.

Congrats on your car . I like the Santa Fe a lot, and Hyundais in general. If I am not getting to noisey what did you pay for it.

really dumb question but - I thought Hyundai advertises "the best car warranty in america"? isn't it like 10 years 100K miles on powertrain>?

oh and congratz! i just got a Avalanche LTZ and I love it - that sux on your mileage...I hope it picks up mine does about 19 combined right now - I do a lot of highway miles so I can get close to 22-23 (which for a land yacht is awesome! lol)

I love the color of your suv!

Thanks, everybody!! So far I'm loving the car.

Congrats! I actually work as a Technician for hyundai, and they are pretty good vehicles. Just make sure you get that intermediate shaft recall done if it hasnt been taken care of already, (depends on the build date) as its been taking out transmissions quick and they are hard to get.

I've known about the 2nd-to-3rd slip and bang and was told it was due to the initial run of transmissions having inadequate clearances between the clutch packs and that the problem had been fixed on the second run. Do you happen to have a recall number for the intermediate shaft recall? Also, not sure if it makes a difference that it's front wheel drive.

The intermediate shaft recall is a completely different animal, the Passangers side intermediate shaft bracket was made too long i guess is the way to put it where it is bolted to the block. This creates an uneven angle where the shaft goes into the differential case (In FWD trans) and ultimately strips out the splines on both the shaft and differential. But no worries, I actually reread the revision to the recall that was just posted. and its only the 2.4L engines that are affected.

Oh and I haven't seen the 2-3 bang in a few months now so you should be in the clear.

Okay guys....the weather seems to be giving us a reprieve from our Super Soaker weekend so I got a chance to clay the new car and slap on a coat of Blackfire Wet Diamond. I'm really glad I clayed it because the poor thing was absolutely covered in rail dust! :yikes: I wish I'd taken pictures of the clay but it was loaded with black flecks...not the normal brownish gunk you pull off. This stuff looked hardcore nasty and I'm glad it's off my paint. :yay
