New Car Prices: I don't get it?!?

Those cars remind me of the first generation Toyota Celica I had in the seventies. That was a great car. They used the engine from those cars in taxi cabs in Japan. Overhead cam and Macpherson struts. We paid less than $3000 for the car when it was new and I sold it for $500 in 1986. I saw it years later still running. Definitely bang for the buck.

What ever happened to those Nissan/Datsun concept cars? I remember they were receiving a lot of positive feedback since they were supposed to be priced low for a brand new car. If I remember correctly it was about ~$10,000 brand new?

gas got cheaper?

This is the car it was model after Datsun 510. Late 60's early 70's from what I have read it is a very popular Japanese tuner/restomod car.

I bought one of the cheapest cars that got around 40mpg in 2011 and i literally hate new car preventive maintenance, and xar payments
Got like 2 more years
Hopefully my kia class action lawsuit comes through soon.
Once monthly payments are done im selling then buying another 60s/70s car
Miss driving vintage everyday
Something goes wrong like a transmission

Th350 is like 50 bucks used
Buick v8 is 50 to 350
Rearend 200 lol

trashmanssd- It probably comes as no surprise to regulars here, but I've always liked those Datsun 510s. Back in the day it was pretty much *the* sensible trackday car in my area.

rimccarty2000- As I recall, those first-gen Celicas were cool little cars too, sorta a mini-ponycar.

I just checked the invoice on my 2000 ford f150 xl super cab that I bought new at $21,825 and a similar 2015 is now $32,560. guess it's not too bad for a 15 yr difference, but mine only has 94k miles, so i'll probably be keeping this one for awhile longer. the new ones are pretty nice though.

If the old one still runs good, no sense in getting a new one and possibly getting a lemon. So I guess you could say, if it aint broke dont fix it

Shines good too !

that is, I ain't fixin it unless ronkh trades me for one of those in the new car lot he calls his driveway.(the black one would be nice) :rofl

Leasing is in my opinion throwing money out the window. You will never own it turn it back in and go deeper into the rabbit hole over and over. My 2013 F150 crew/4x4 was almost stickerd at $45 large, the new F150's are even more it's my last new truck for a long while. I have a 6 year note it's the longest I have ever had.

If you rent and lease, at the end of the day you have nothing. Except less responsibility, which is what most people are after.

We had a good discussion about leasing on a recent thread..while leasing (or financing) isn't right for me, for some folks it *is* great simply because of the whole peace of mind factor. The lady I got my '93 Audi from will *never* have to give a moment's thought to her transportation needs and that same thing is working out great for a number of people I know. It can be a tricky (and to me, interesting) topic; I always bump up against "how can I put a monetary value on somebody else's concerns", ya know?
