New Car.. Collinite 845?

Wife just got a new dark red VW Passat. It's a lease.

I want to throw some sealant on it right away. All I have right now is Collinite 845.

Will a few coats be sufficient? Or should I try and find some Duragloss locally first, and put 845 on top..

EDIT: Also! Someone remind me the cure time for 845.. is it 24 hours?

Although 845 is a wax it could be considered a sealant as well. It has the basic look of a sealant but with a bit more depth. It also has the ease of use of a sealant. Perhaps the biggest comparison is that it lasts longer than most waxes and gives you the protection of a sealant. In fact, I would not be surprised if 845 lasts longer than most sealants.

I would not hesitate to use it on your new car. I bought a new MB last May in "Diamond White" which is just beautiful. I used Duragloss sealants the first time around (601/105). The second time, just a couple months ago, I used Duragloss 601/111 combo topped by two coats of 845 and it looks as good as it ever has. I am also sure this gorgeous paint will be as protected as it can be. Wash, clay, polish or use a paint cleaner prep and then go to your 845. In time when you get the Duragloss products that you want to use just repeat the process and put the sealant on before the 845. As far as cure time I really don't know for sure but I gave it 12 hours between coats.

On a lease? Lol, 845 is going to be perfect, I wouldn't do anymore.

Yep, right over any exterior trim, quick and easy. I'd do one coat now and another after the next wash and then wait a month or so before doing it again.

It's *so* quick and easy that it's no biggie to just do a quick coat whenever you have a few extra minutes after a wash, so I don't see any big need to work at layering it. Of course, *I* like to do combinations of 845 and 476S, but that's me and even I am now doing "one coat now-wait until wash to add another".

Okay, a quick question if I may. Over the past 5 days I washed my red Mazda 6, clayed it, hit it with an app of DG101, then 4 coats of 105, a day apart. It looks like it's on fire. My question: I'm going to either spray it with Aquawax in a day or two or put on a coat of 845. My concern is that the 845 may bring down the shine a little. Has anyone done/experienced this? I use these products a lot but have never put one over the other, somehow. Anyway, any opinions are appreciated.

Hey, thread hijacker..! Ha..

Guys - Are you applying 845 via hand, or via PC?

Doing some reading..Plus the advice above, DC 111 + DC 601 then 845 after seems perfect. I'm going to do 845 only this round, but 111/106 next round. I have to order it.

I usually apply with a PC because it's so quick and you don't have to shake it till it turns to liquid. If I do it by hand, I shake it and run it under warm water till it gets real thin, throw a spray top in it and spray it onto an applicator. Either way, a very thin application is key for 845.

I do the first coat of 845 by machine (Griot 6" on setting 3 with a finishing pad). The second coat is done by hand because after the first coat the second goes on like butter.

To E-Jag: why put AquaWax under 845? You have the Duragloss sealant (4 coats? really?) on already so all you have to do is top with the Collinite. The AquaWax can be used every month or so as an after wash "topper" to boost shine.

I often (?usually? :confused ) do 845 via machine too, even though I can never seem to get as thin an application that way....yeah, I oughta get some of the LC gold pads to fix that.

Oh, and no, I've never had 845 mute the looks, but I've never tried it over top of a more "clear" LSP either.

Shortspark, I was planning to use one or the other but what you say makes sense. I 845 mutes the 105 a little I can just hit it with Aquawax. Probably overthinking this. Yeah, 4 layers because I want the car done before central Florida turns into the ovens of hell and it has to last quite a while. Had heat stroke 2 years ago and consequently I lose my enthusiasm for detailing along about April. I wash the car once a week through the summer months and thats just about it.

Probably should just Opti-Coat it and be done with it. Wash with ONR wash and wax and you'll be amazed at the appearance and how easy it is to keep up.

Been thinking about doing that, Scott. All this stuff went on over a 9 month old application of Opti-Seal. These old eyes can't imagine anything looking much better than that.

What's the deal with Opti-Coat... Is it some kind of plastic type treatment that makes maintenance

almost obsolete. Would someone please explain to me?

Thanks a bunch!

I have never tried this stuff but to answer your question you should start with this: Optimum Car Care

...[845] will protect your trim.

Which is one of the big reasons why it's so highly recommended here. Easier to wax when you don't have to avoid the trim, easier to maintaint the trim with stuff like 845 compared to "dressings".
