new BlackFire durability update

3 weeks ago I did a thorough prep job on a white Neon. Clayed, Griot’s #1 machine polish, DACP, AIO with the PC. I finished up with 1 coat of the new BF. On the left-front panel I used the old formula for comparison.

Normally I would do more than one coat of protectant over the course of a few weeks but wanted to see if durability had improved. The last time I used Blackfire I had three coats on and it seemed like it had lost a lot of luster after 3 weeks, it had also lost most of it’s slickeness.

The test car is parked outside uncovered in a wooded area. I gave the car a weekly wash. After the third weekly wash the finish was still looking liked a freshly waxed car, had lots of slickness and was beading like crazy. The panel with the old formula was not as slick, didn’t have as much shine and was doing that sheet-beading thing. I ended up putting another coat on and am contemplating doing my wife’s car that is Zaino’d so I can get a better feel of it long-term. So in my little one car, 3 week test the new formula seems improved in terms of durability of shine and slickenss and it looks as good as the original. Big thumbs up for CMA tweaking BF and making a better product! And a big thank you to them also for letting so many of us test out the new stuff!

How’s your reformulated Blackfire holding up?

I have not been able to wash my BF2 test bed because of all the rain we have been getting here in southwestern Virginia. Nevertheless, the area that is treated with BF2 is still beading and relatively clean and has a good gloss even through a layer of road film. Beading is as strong as even. Hopefully I will get a chance to wash it this weekend to evaluate the slickness and gloss retention.

So far I am very pleased with the new formulation.:up

Thanks for the update Adam. What shampoo did you use?

I'm 60% sure I'm going to apply BF to my wife's black bimmer this weekend. I'm still deciding between this or Zaino and your review tilts my opinion even more. Gonna prep the paint using FI-2 followed by GEPC and then the protectant (whatever it ends up being).

Is anyone conducting a longer-term test of BF2 to see how long it can last at the limits?

Sure... but it will take some time... I've had it on for about 4 weeks now and it looks like the day I applied it. I keep struggling with whether to top with souveran or not (the car is too dirty now because of the rain). I'd like to see how the BF holds up, but I'd also like to see what Souveran looks like. It's gonna be warm this weekend, so I'll wash the car again and that'll be when I top or don't top. I'll probably top it, though.

Put Sovereign on say the roof and leave the hood and trunk alone. Or add another coat of Blackfire to them to see how long it lasts.

We had a warm couple of hours so I was able to put on a New Blackfire coat on top of the old one. Boy, that stuff is slick. Depth and shine are fabulous or course. Took a long time to dry since the temps were in the high 40's. Did the entire car before I even started to buff. Removal was easy, but a large part of it was because I was putting very small amounts on the microfiber applicator. The advice found here was very helpful.

Well, I'm not really a half-and-half'er. It is supposed to be almost 70F this weekend, so I think I'll just go ahead and wash the car and put Souveran on. Next week they are calling for rain, though, so it won't look good for long. Really, I need to use the products I have up. They don't stay good forever, but they tend to last me that long. I never use stuff up. So I'll just slap some on, see how it looks, and get some use out of it (what a thing to say about Souveran, ehh?). I bought a bottle of Gold Class wax about 4 years ago, and I used to put a coat on my Corvette almost every week. Even in the winter I'd do it at least once a month (I worked at a place that had a parking garage with heated water. I'd just use it in the evenings). The bottle is still like half full. I don't think I've ever thrown away an empty bottle of car care stuff.
