New black car - just wax or polish & wax

I have a new, black, G35 and have been QD every day after work, for the past week. It was prep'd at the dealership and surprisingly they did a very good job. I am wondering, at this point, if I should just wax it, or do I need to polish it before I wax it. No swirl marks, just the occasional streak here and there, hardly noticeable.

If it looks good now I'd not mess with a polish. Apply a good sealant that has a small amount of cleaner in it -- Meguiar's Medallion Premium Paint Protection or NXT. Both look good on black. At your next detail use polish before you you apply a sealant.

Yano .. I'm going to throw a curve here .. I own a black car and black car owners are black car magnets. I have seen new black cars come out of the dealer looking great .. only to have the glaze wear off shortly and walla ... the swirls show up after the new owner waxes it.

Myself I think instead of immediatly waxing / sealing I'd do an AIO or even a dreaded Dawn wash then dry it and run it out in the sun to see what you actually have. If your lucky and no swirls proceed from there .. If you have the swirls etc .. then develope your plan off attack .. like polish the swirls out then wax/seal .. whatever.

JMHO.

If you're satisfied with the look of your car, just apply a good quality wax to it. Eventually, you will have to use a polish as the G35's clear coat scratches easily and wax will only hide so much. I have a black G35 and so far I'm not a big fan of Nissan paint. I found VM, WG and PS as the best combo so far on the car. As for polish, I used DACP and that seems to work pretty well.

Another option, which has yet to be mentioned, is to polish the paint using Menzerna FP. This will burnish the paint to the highest possible gloss before applying the finish of your choice. (Preparation is everything!).

If it were my new car I would AIO then SG x 3 after that. Then QD with SONUS and alternately layer UPP and more SG. I think that combination would make your eyes bleed! See the GOAT in Click & Brag

;) :D

Thanks guys. I have felt the protection the dealer prep people provided is wearing off and thats why I decided to ask you guys what to do. I am not so sure about the clay part, because when I run my fingers over the car or use a MF towel, I don't feel any surface contaminents. My other cars I would clay whenever I could feel something, if it wasn't like a piece of glass.
