Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes. I have a fairly new car and keep it looking good the best I can but every time I look I see my nieghbors cats walking on my car and it's really annoying me. I even went over and talked to her but she took the cats will be cats attitude. How bad will there claws damage my paint? Has anyone else had this problem and what can i do about it? Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

Good info in this thread including a link to yet another thread. I'll bet if you use the search feature you might find even more.

Cats can be a real menace to paint.

I have the same problem at work the only problem is I can never catch the cat on the car. If the cat is still on the car you can get a good spray bottle that will squirt a stream a good distance, fill the bottle with amonia and a little water. Try to spray close to the cats head. The cat should leave and not come back. Then wipe off the left overs on your car and touch up your protection. I also heart cats dont like moth balls. Maybe and old sock full of them left on the windshield. If all else fails......never mind.

A silenced air-rifle will do the trick.

Juuuuuuuust kidding guys;-). Repellent all around the vehicle might just work.

you could try wetting your drive with water and sprinkling black pepper around your car, the cats hate the smell and wont be going near your pride and joy anytime soon. well, it works if you want them to stop fouling on your doorstep!

When chemicals, pepper, etc fail: There's always an old faithful!

No cats, chipmunks, deer, mice, or stray people either LOL

My parents had a problem with the neighbors cat so they went ot the dog pound (animal control) and our Animal Control gives out cat traps. They caught the cat and then took it to the pound. I am sure it is someone elses problem now.

I would nicely tell your neighbor that she simply has 2 choices...Keep watch over her cat or the next time you catch the cat you are taking it to the pound. Also, that you will have video of the cat on your car and that should any damage occur (explain to her that cat nails scratch clear coat very easily) that she will be responsibly for the cost. If the cat is worth that much to her, so be it. After a nice expensive paint/clear coat repair, I am sure she will have a change of heart

Do not hit the cat with a broom or scare the crap out of it. They instantly activate their claws and will scratch the .... out of your paint. I did that once scared the crap out of the cat on my car and it scratched the crap out of my paint, I got all the scratches out of it. Work wasn't necessary if the stupid cat stayed on the ground.

You may want to let her know that since "cats will be cats", they also tend to disappear frequently!

It's not the cats fault, it's the lousy cat owner. Don't hurt the cat please. Not cool.

Yes you just have to let the owner know that she's responsible for her cats and the damage they cause. Leave her a note if you don't want to talk to her again. Go the repellent route. Good luck.

In no way would I hurt the cat. I tried to take the friendly approach first in hopes that she would understand and be senseable about it but obviously she does'nt respect other peoples property. I'll try the cat repellant first and if that does'nt work a cat trap might just be justice because I don't think she even feeds the cat and I don't like picking up dead mice in my driveway eighter.

put a ring of mothballs around the car

It's unrealistic to for someone to have to do this every time they park the car. I agree with the fact that it's the cat owner's fault, so don't do anything to hurt the cat.

Go over to the cat owners house with a .22 strapped to your back. Explain that you've been having problems with their cats damaging your new car and you'd like them to stop. They'll keep their cats indoors after that, trust me.
