Need your help and advice??????

I am in need of some input as to the problem I have. This weekend while the wife and I were shopping for Christmas. Someone decided to give an early gift and key the bed of our '08 Silverado. We weren't even in the store more than 20 minutes when it happened. The question I have is, is there anything that I can do by hand to get rid of it or fix it? Or does it need to go see the body shop? It is on the drivers side and goes a little more than halfway down the side of the bed. It doesn't seem too deep except for where they started it. Any advice would be appreciated.:bigups

I hate to hear stories like this....if you can feel it with your finger nail, its to deep for wet sanding...sounds like its a touch up paint job..and one that I would get a pro to do...if you can find a decent detailer in your area that has experience with this then that's the direction I would go

I can definetly feel it with the finger nail. That's the answer I was afraid I was going to get. The truck isn't even 4 months old yet. I always park way out away from people also just to try and prevent stuff like this from happening. When we came out there was a Ford full size parked right next to us. I'm not a betting man, but I will guess it was probably them that did it.

You could always try a hand polish such as Meg's ScratchX before you go looking to pay someone for a touch up job. Worst case scenario it would only cost you seven bucks for the polish and if the results are not what you're wanting then you would know for sure it's something you need to take to a professional. I wouldn't give up on it before I tired anything - you may be able to get it to a point that is acceptable with a little elbow grease and time.

Your Insurance should cover this.
Contact you Insurance company and ask if your comprehensive covers it.

yup ..don't mess with it until after your insurance company has seen it !!!! After you get the insurance to look at it, there's no harm in trying to polish it out... sorry to hear about the misfortune

I'm going to guess that to repaint the bed side will be $600.00 unless you take it to a cheap place and I sure would not do that on a new truck. :wow:

just ask your ins. agent first, if you claim this will your rate go up... most likely it will... your fault or not... 600 vs a slightly higher rate... I'd pay out of pocket.

Thanks for all the advice and tips everyone. I am actually meeting with my ins. agent tomorrow after work about some other insurance. I will ask him then about comprehensive and if the rates will go up or not. They haven't in the past on comprehensive claims we've made.

I hate people like that. Mess with someone else's property for no legit reason based on an assumption.

Hope the body shop does good work for you and comes out right.

My only question is when you came out the store, was the Ford that was parked next to you also out there aways from everyone else? Would seem suspicious to me.
