Need to wash after clay before polish?

I've always just did a quick rinse with water after I clay before I polish. Doing a detail with no water source tomorrow and I guess I'm just wondering is what I'm doing needed.

Thanks

I agree with the others in that I don't wash after clay either. I DO make sure the paint is clean of any debris or material left over before I buff and polish though.

I use ONR as my clay lube, mix 6oz. of onr with 1 gal. of distilled water if you have hard water. Spray each panel, clay and wipe with mf.

I have never washed a car after claying and before polishing. I've never seen a reason to.

Couldn't it be possible to loosen some contaminants that don't stick to the clay and thus get left on the surface? Would a rinse be a smart safety precaution at the very least? Just doesn't seem like a chance worth taking IMO.

Yes it's possible, if you don't feel comfortable qd after claying by all means rinse.

I personally don't rinse after claying. Some people in my shop do, I just haven't seen the reason to yet, as long as you wipe with a MF cloth before you start in, you should be just dandy.

You clay, then wipe down the panel to dry it. No more chance of leaving anything than you would washing.
