Hello,

In 2013 I'm going to use a streamlined approach to starting my business with 3 packages:

Basic: ONR, Spray Wax/Opti-Seal, Tires/Wheel Wells Dressed, Vac and Interior Wipe Down

Gold: ONR, Clay,AIO, Tires/Wheel Wells Dressed, Glass, Vac and Interior Wipe Down and Protection

Platinum: ONR, Clay, Tires/Wheel Wells Dressed, Exhaust Tips Polished, 1 step correction, Opti-Coat, Glass with Interior Wipe Down and Protection.

For Maintenance Packages my market will support Monthly and Quarterly packages.

Will do paint corrections and stain removal on vehicle by vehicle basis. Just don't have a strong market for corrections.

Any critique is welcome, in the end it will all help me. Thank You all in advance.

I will say this. I love that your basic package does not touch glass. Glass is such a pain and time killer. Though, I could easily say that I would rather clean glass than vacuum a VW. /shutters

Go for it. I have Basic, Premium, and Executive packages, which covers basically the whole spectrum. Having simple, easy to understand packages makes it easier for your potential clients to understand what you offer, and what you DONT offer in each package.

You could make it real easy and just offer your gold package the first year. That is the closest package you have to to my most popular package. When people ask "how much to detail my car?" ask a few qualifying questions and you will find 95% fit your gold package. One thing you may want to invest in is an extractor($600)

I am about to do the same, while still offering the higher end corrections.

One thing though...

dont offer opticoat on cars that dont get paint correction in the 90%+ range! and make sure you are charging a premium for it! Here is why IMO:

opticoat customers will not be seen for at least 18 months if not 2 years in most cases. (for the typical "I dont have to wax my car now" mindset client). That is about 8 wash and waxes they do not have to have done (every 3 months) so therefore you lose on the money from that client. You dont need to charge $1000 for the application of opticoat (otherwise what is the point), but you should be charging in the $400-$600 range for it for an overall savings of $400 PLUS the time savings by the client not having to be without a car for a few hours 8 different days over the next two year...total is about 24 hours more with the car, and $400 more in their pocket!

Thank you very much Eric!! This is the type of insight like everyone elses so far that I'm looking for!! Although I've been in customer service and detailing for many years, you guys are the experienced pros. Can't put a price on your guys experience and knowledge. A big thumbs up to you all for taking the time to help me!! Someday I hope to pay it forward.

Eric,

Are you going to offer a basic package or something similar or forgoe it all together. Very seroiusly considering just considering offering the basic package to maintenance packages only (Thanks for the idea Mike.)

I definitely need to change the wording on that Scott. Wipedown=Cleaning all interior surfaces. Yes I do do full interior details. Thank You for pointing that out, I appreciate it.

Okay, just checking. I know some here only do exterior details and nothing more than a vacuum and damp towel to the interior.

I was wondering if i could get some insight from you pros on this. Im trying to re work the detail packages my shop offers. Right now i dont feel we tailor to enough people. I dont want to thread jack but why make another thread?

Currently we offer 4 packages, Interior Detail (complete interior plus a quick rinse and jams), Exterior detail( Handwash, wheels and tires, jams, outside windows, prep and wax, no polish or paint correction currently) Then the full monty which is the interior plus exterior and all you gain in the engine cleaned and dressed which isnt offered unless you get the full detail. Lastly we offer a mini detail package which is a wash, jams, wheels tires, vac, dust the dash area, windows.

Im looking at new names, and maybe a different package structure? I want to add either a wash/wax or wash/vac service(s) as maintenance up sell or for the people just wanting to spend 30-50 bucks to freshin up they're car. I also want to possibly offer separate paint correction services? What do you guys think? We also offer lots of master shield services but i want to look into offering opti-coat to the higher end people...

Thoughts ? Thanks in advanced

ps. do you guys charge extra for serious hair removal or lots of tar, sap etc.. removal ?
