hey guys this is my first post here... i have a 99 maxima and so far i have done this...

1. meguirs clay bar real good

2. swirl remover all over the car w/ buffer

3. mequires polish, (i forget which one it is but its the proffesional line, kinda looks dark green when it comes out)

4. high tech yellow #26 wax

i heard meguires was pretty good but does anyone have any better suggestions and where to get them from?? i am willing to spend some time doing this and want it to be the absolute shinest i can get it.

also what kind of car wash soap should i use..

thanks

Cris

Others will be able to help you with your wax and sealant choices. I am still finishing my consumer line products :(

But if you are about to do a full exterior detail, I suggest you Dawn wash, Clay, Dawn Wash, Car Wash with Automotive Soap.

People like to use Mothers Gold Class Carwash.

I just get the large jugs from Costco of Turtle Wax Car Wash. (No was additives)

EDIT* NO WAX ADDITIVES

what is DACP?? and are there any other products better than meguires for shine and protection. i would like a real deep looking finish.

thanks

Cris

DACP = dual action cleaner polish

meguair's makes a great pro line. I use just about every one of the products they make for detailing all my customers cars.

The car wash soap i like the best is gold class shampoo, works great and smells really good too.

Guy you are asking for opinions. You really need to read the book and do a search on polymers

Now just to stir things up there is: Klasse, Blackfire and something called Zaino, oh yes Meguiars #20 is a polymer.

Hello s2cmpugh,

I also like Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo. As far as waxes and polymers/sealants or a combination thereof, it really depends on your preference. Speaking from my observations, many members who own dark color vehicles like Black, Blue, and Red like to use a carnauba wax product because it really adds depth and that deep glow every enthusiasts is after. Some popular brands of carnauba waxes are Pinnacle, P21s/S100, One Grand Blitz, Meguiars, etc. Members with lighter color vehicles like white, silver, gray prefer polymers/sealants such as Zaino, Blackfire, Klasse, Platinum, etc. If you do a search on any of these brands, you should be able to find a wealth of information and members review and suggestions. Some members like to use a Polymer/Sealant as a base cost with multiple layers (personal preference) and then top it off with their favorite carnauba wax.

With Aloha,

Ranney

Use DACP only if you're sure a mild swirl remover like #9 won't cut it or (better yet) you've given it a good try and it hasn't worked. Always try the least aggressive aproach first.

Also, I would skip the last double wash from Bizzy's recommendation as I feel it's overkill and not needed at all if you're using a polish on the paint afterward. If it gets dirty or you've left visible clay residue behind, wash it just to get it clean.

As you learn more you'll find many products are "good", but people just have differing tastes and preferences. :)

thanks guys for the help, so is it ok to use like a buffer on my car?? i have this little 6" buffer...

thanks

Cris
Sure I suppose, as long as it's a random orbital type deal. Make sure the bonnets you use are clean, and you might want to consider doing a CD scratch test on them too if they are of questionable quality. Just remember you probably can't exert as much pressure as you can with a PC or by hand though.

1. meguirs clay bar real good

(Check out ClayMagic's Blue Bar at your AutoZone)

2. swirl remover all over the car w/ buffer

(4DSC is correct in saying that you need to go with the least aggressive approach first. With that said, you can get Meguiar's Swirl Mark Remover 2.0)

3. mequires polish, (i forget which one it is but its the proffesional line, kinda looks dark green when it comes out)

(Check out Pinnacle's Paintwork Cleansing Lotion or Klasse All In One.)

4. high tech yellow #26 wax

Dependent on where you live, you might want to consider adding a sealant glaze (e.g. Meguiar's #20 or Klasse Sealant Glaze) to protect your handiwork against the elements. Then you could use the #26 to top the glaze.

As far as car wash soap is concerned, check out Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo. :D

I think Prinz said it perfectly.

As for the polish, yes, the paintwork cleansing lotion & AIO are awesome. The dark green polish you are referring to sounds like Meguiar's Hand Polish (#81 I think?). It's very similar to #7, except it seems a little easier to work with. I would only use it if you decide NOT to use any polymer sealants. Otherwise, go with the PCL or AIO.

its a 99 GLE w/ dark green exterior and tan leather on the insde

Sherwood Green. Nice. :D

The most difficult thing is the rims on your car. I don't know if you have the aluminum sawblades or a different rim for yours, but you will definitely need to treat them with a nice sealant glaze and clay them because the rims on our Maxes are clearcoated like the paint and need adequate protection from the elements.

<< 02' SE, Gray Lustre, Black Interior

A very good polymer sealant is Klasse AIO (AIO all-in-one). AIO cleans and protects and is very easy to use and does not stain trim.

BTW: the term sealant /gaze can be confusing the way marketing uses the term.

Sealant: is a product that attempts to seal and protect the paint surface. Polymers are good sealants because they last a long time.

Glaze: is usually a product that has fillers, usually oils that fill in surface defects and promotes the shine but they have very little protection.

It is difficult to put a polymer over a glaze because the oil prevents the polymer from bonding.

Question anyone: is today the last day for the CMA discount?
