Need some explanation

I just got a 7424XP, and I'm a newbie to machine polishing. I decided to go with the Edge pads. I used Poorboys World Pro Polish 2 w/ the green pad to have a slight cut. I used the 6th speed, and it seemed like the pad would stop with hardly any pressure, and it would just vibrate. In the videos I watched, the user was pressing down pretty hard. What would be the reason that mine would stop spinning so easily?

Also, what is the purpose of the counterweight? I'm using 6" pads. Do I need the plate even with the Edge pads?

Thanks in advance.

01svtL- Noting that a) I've only used Edge pads via rotary and Cyclo, b) I've only used the pre-XP models of the PC, and c) I've never used Poorboy's products.... (sheesh, bet this reply won't be of much help :o )

If your PCXP is working properly, and you're using the right amount of product, then it's a little surprising that your XP is bogging down the same way the wimpier older PCs does.

I wonder how it'd behave with smaller pads  With the older PCs smaller pads were pretty much required for this exact reason.

The counterweight cuts down on vibration and yeah, you do need it even with the Edge pads. FWIW I like the 6" counterweight even with smaller pads.
