Need some advice on what to do with my car

I'm a little confused...everywhere else on the web it says the 7424 is a 6" sander...so the counterweight size is different from the sander size? Sorry to be such a newbie! Thanks for your patience. :)

The difference between the two is the counterweight not the backingplate. I believe the 7336 actually comes with a backingplate but you won't be using that one. It is a rigid plate which is no good for detailing, only *sanding*.

Basically, you will be starting off with nothing, just the machine. You will have to buy a backingplate and pads to go with that machine. If you buy the Sonus kit, it comes with everything you need to make both machines work: backingplate, pads, etc.

The only thing that will be different is the fact that the 7336 comes with a 6" counterweight which was designed to go with a 6" backinplate, and you will be using a 5" backingplate from Sonus. You can either leave it alone or buy a 5" counterweight from Coastal Tool online. I think I paid like $2 plus shipping for it.

By the way, changing the counterweight isn't something that HAS to be done immediately. You can work with the one your machine will come with for quite some time until you feel the urge to try out the 5" weight. All it does is minimize vibration which you can usually only feel on the highest speeds anyway, which you will probably shy away from in the beginning anyway.

To make it easier, this is all you need:

1) 7336 machine

2) Sonus pad kit (complete kit with backingplate)

Here's a link to the kit I am referring to: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-daspad-kit.html

3) 1Z PP

4) Sonus Paintwork cleanser

and a few microfiber towels for buffing all this stuff off and you are done

Great thanks. Yeah the counterweight is only $2 but shipping is like $7...so I think i'll probably hold off on the counterweight unless I feel my hand getting numb. Since I am only planning on using this thing 2-3 times a year I don't think it's a huge concern. Thanks again.

You're very welcome. When you get all of this stuff in, post a new thread asking how to actually use them and someone will help you out. Have fun!

On more question. Do I need more than one gray pad, or can I just use one pad for all the different zaino products?

I would think that you can mostly do Zaino by hand, but if you want to use a finishing pad for application you are going to need a separate pad for each product. I'm not very familiar with Zaino but if you are using three zaino steps, what are they? Is any of the three a polishing or prepping step? If so, that's the one I would make sure to use the finishing pad with, the rest can be done by hand.
