Need Sealant Idea (for black car)

Hi everyone,

My black Buick will be sitting outside all of the time in a couple of months and I need suggestions for a sealant that is durable, adds depth, and prevents water spotting after heavy rains. I was thinking of Z2 pro. I was also thinking of the Finish Kare products.

Would it work to use SSR-1 then FK 218 or 2810 and then use 425 or should I stick with Z2 pro or should I go back to the Klasse AIO and SG combination? What do you all think?

Thanks,

Gabe

Sealant that adds depth? The only one that (to me) adds depth is Poorboy's EX w/carnauba. Reformulated a while back, pretty good durability with excellent depth. Wolfgang looks good on black too but isn't as durable as EX. Those are really the only two sealants I like on black.

Water spotting on an immobile vehicle is not preventable. What is preventable is permanent water etching in the clearcoat. Most product worth anything should stop etching in the short term.

I have personal luck with the Z system on my 24hr/day exposed Escalade. Zero water damage with minimal weekly care.

Z2PRO x 3 and topped with Z8 will give you protection, depth and wetness and reflectivity. I suggest adding Z5 x 2 initially to aid in hiding minor surface marring and also to use every month or so to hide the marring created by normal vehicle usage and washing.

Klasse also has a good track record for durability and many top with a carnuaba to adjust to their visual likings.

Of course there are many other fine products out there that will give you a different look on black. Some like black hair with the "WiseGuy" slick back look and some like the natural sheen of black hair. Same with black vehicles.

Do a search in the review section and the trading thread and maybe find some samples to test.

I have used Poorboy's PwC followed by EX on solid black (no metal flake).

Easy to apply (via PC), easy to remove, decent depth and I got about 4 months before applying another LSP on a non-garaged F150.

I'm using Zaino on the wife's car and FK1 2180 on my black daily driver.

My wife's car has 9 weeks on it's present Z2Pro application and 2 touchups with Z6...still beading.... the roof and trunk are starting to show a need for reapplication.

I have 5 weeks on my first application of 2180 and 2 touchups with 425...still beading very well. I'll have to see in another 4 weeks how's it's doing.

I tried the 2180 in a quest to find a "cold" weather sealant that dried quicker than Zaino in the 30 degree weather when I detail...It does dry very nicely in the cold.

The two products seem equal in my book so far for shine/gloss.

I use only the softened rinse water at the self serve wash.....MUCH longer wax life when not using their soap.....I do bring a bucket of suds from home for hand washing.

Gabe - where in VA are you?

I'd do 2180 (2 or 3 layers) on a very clean paint. Top that with a couple of layers of FK1 #1000.

What polish do you have?

Thanks for the suggestions,

I think I might try FMJ, it claims to sheet water, does anyone know if this is true? What about Chemical Guys M-Seal? By the way, Tdekany, I am in the Richmond area and I have really come to like the SSRs from Poorboys as my usual polishes. In fact I think I will use SSR 1 on an orange pad and then top that with FMJ, will this last? It will sure save me some money, so I don't have to buy FP II.

Thanks again,

Gabe

Richmond is nice!

SSR1 is an excellent product, I have 1 gallon of each ssr in stock. Especially once summer is here you'll appreciate them even more.

I'd say either go with the Zaino or the FK1. I have Meguiar's #21 and have been pretty happy with it on my black DD too. I wasn't to thrilled with EX, WG or UPP in terms of durability on my car; so as of now if #21 can maintain the look I have a keeper.

You actually might want to wait a little bit longer and wait for Zaino Z-5Pro to come out. Best of both worlds from what I understand.

I'm making an early prediction its going to be one of the most anticipated and biggest products in 2006. :)

When is the Zaino Z 5 pro slated to come out?

I'm not exactly sure, my *guess* would be sometime this spring/summer. I have read really good things about the new Z5 Pro on another forum from different testers, so if you we're considering get the Z, I would definately wait a little longer for this stuff to become available.
