Need Proceedure, Scratches, Black?

I am planning on getting a PC soon.

I know that many have discussed this before, however, I can't seem to determine the definitive answer.

I have a black '02 Mustang. After I first bought it, I washed it several times, using Meguires Ulitmate Wash. After a few washings, I started to notice scratches. (only used Fieldcrest at that time). I then jumped onto the Zaino bandwagon. Zaino hides the scratches pretty good, but I want to get rid of the completely.

The car is a garage queen, so after posting here a few times, others conviced me QD should be all I need, and wash maybe a couple of times per year. I have been doing that, with Z6 and microfibers (along with Caliduster).

I have no idea were the scratches came from, as I do not seem to be adding any at all. What is there has been there since first discovery in the begining. On some of them I can get my fingernail to just barely detect them.

What combo / proceedure do I use to get rid of these?

PC with 3M ??? and yellow pad??? Then back to Z5???

Meguiar's #9 is a great polish. I personally think it is a step above 3m's Swirl Mark Remover. You'll want to get some and try it out. Really great stuff.

I can't recommend anything more agressive than Meguiar's #9 simply because I don't know anything you can get easily unless you want a gallon of Pro's Creamy Cutter :) A few applications of #9 though will probably get rid of those scratches. Black is a hard color to care for but when it is detailed nothing looks better (except candy apple red :p )

Least abrasive first. The point is you can always move up to a stronger cut.

If you are catching your finger nail in the scratch then this usually means your are through the clear coat. Trying to polish out a scratch that is through the clear coat may result in removing too much clear and lead to paint failure. It is highly unlikely that you can remove too much clear with the PC.

I noticed on CMA that they have a new spot remover that contains a small backing plate and wool pad and a polishing pad.

I will try to post a link.

Personally, I have to recommend something way above #9 or SMR for the PC. Sure, with a rotary you'll get somewhere with #9, but not with a PC... I use FI2, and 3M FCRC which are both stronger than #9/SMR
