Need pads

I just picked up the pc 7336 and now looking for pads. Current detail products I'm using are:
Megs nxt wash
Clay
Megs nxt wax
And will be buying some 3m swirl remover.

Within the next month I will be switching to PB's. Any recommendations on brands, and why types. I've heard allot of good things about Country but not sure what colors.

Thanks

I have used both Lake country and Edge pads, I have no complaints with either.
The important thing is the types of pads, I find myself using more polishing pads than finishing or cutting pads. I like to have a fresh pad for when I change between different polishing stages, you can always clean the pad between products but for me it just saves time.

You will also want to think on whether you want to use a backing plate system or the Edge system.

For a list of different manufactures pads colors and their aggressivenes there is a link (conviently located) in my sig.

Good luck

Awesome thanks guys..

Yeah J, I'll definetly check out that link. I'm not sure what pads are use for what time of products.

You can get by with just 1-2 light cutting pads. I would use those for very bad paint. For the most part, as J said you'll want a few polishing pads. I think I have about 6-8 polishing pads. They are what I use the most; and the safest, IMO. If I can't get something out with SSR 2.5 and a polishing pad then I like to think that the defect is too deep to safely remove. You'll also want 1-2 finishing pads for applying your LSPs.

So for most of your polishes and paint cleaners (for PB line SSR2.5, SSR1, PwC, PwS, etc) you'll use polishing pads- a clean pad for different polishes. Then you would use the finishing pads for the NxT, PB EX, Ex-P.

Yeah what he said :gotcha: ..one orange cutting pad wouldn't hurt either ;)

My paint is in very fair condition (05' black w/ light scratches & swirls).
Is this correct?
Lake Country:
Light cutting pads for waxing (orange) - Older paint only?
Polishing pads to remove wax (white)??
Finishing pads??

Sorry guys I am a total noob to this.

If your paint only has light scratches and swirls, I wouldn't even bother with a light cut pad, a polishing pad should work.

You said you would be using PB's so I would first try SSR1 with a polishing pad (white LC pad) on a section. If it's not to your liking you could move up to SSR2.5 with a polishing pad, that should remove what you are describing, follow with SSR1 with a polishing pad if necessary.

Don't be afraid to turn the PC up to 5-6 and apply a little pressure, move slowly over the section overlapping your passes in different directions | - \ / this will make sure that you are covering the entire area.

When the finish is to your liking then you can apply your sealant with a finishing pad (black LC pad).

I sometimes apply VM or PwC with a finishing pad before I apply my sealant, but these are personal choices, the fun of the hobby is experimenting to see what gives you the look that you like.

Always remove your polishes or LSP with a soft clean MF.

Budman and Jay pretty much summed it up. I'm going to throw in another vote for Edge 2K pads though. I really like the design and ease of use that they provide.

I'm going to look into those as well. I haven't read much about them yet.

I bought a ton of 6.5" LC pads when I got my PC. I had 5 of each flavor. And I detail on the side and what do I use most? Orange pad with XMT#3. Now, I have rotary too, I use the yellow and orange with that, maybe a white pad once in a blue moon. But even for badly scratched up paint, I'll use the rotary - yel or orange pad and some compound - Meg's 84 or 83, then follow up with my PC. So what I'm trying to tell you is just buy 2 maybe 3 pads, cutting, light cut and polish. You'll save more time doing any glazing and certainly applying a wax or sealer if you do it by hand. I'm going to see if I can trade or sell all those gray and blue pads. And yes, I'm going to be getting those 8" Edge pads for my rotary as soon as I can!

Junebug- just stick with the 6 inch Edge pads for rotary work. They are easier to control. On cars 8 inch pads are a bit big.
