My Cadillac is dark blue and lving in Upstate, NY, the winters don't treat it too well. I plan on buying a PC this week and am going to try and polish out some of the swirl marks and fine scratches. I have a few pics I would like everyone too look at and tell me what product/process they suggest for my car.

Paint Pics

I was looking at the Merdernza IP and the Megs 83, will they both do the same job? Is one better than the other for these marks? Thanks in advance!

Thats a great post, I didn't come acrosse it when I was initially searching. So would I be correct to assume that the Megs is much more abrasive thant the IP? I'm concerned about hurting my paint using the Megs. Also, is it common to go over the Megs with the IP and then the FP or could the IP and FP be substitued for the #83?

Please forgive all my questions, live everyone else I am jsut looking for a great shine.

I have been reading through the forums a little more. Based on the pics of my car's paint, would you guys recommend going to the less agressive #80 first and then doing the #83 or just go right to the #83?

Kind of depends on how hard your paint is, but it wouldn't hurt to try #80 before stepping up to #83. I really think you'll wind up using #83, but when in doubt *always* start out the the least abrasive polish/pad and then step up if needed.

I think that might be a bit much for #80 to handle. You might find the 3M PI-III RC (05933) easier to work than the #83. The 1Z polishes are quite user-friendly too, but I'd use the 05933. And I'd use it on a 4" pad. Covers less area but works more effectively, compared to the larger pads.

Follow up with something like the #80 and I think you'll be happy with it.

Sorry, can't comment on the IP as I haven't used it.

I find the 05933 *very* user-friendly and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Although it's a lot milder than it sounds ("rubbing compound") it is quite effective on minor marring, especially when used with the smaller pads. Our minivan hadn't been polished for at least two years, but I was able to correct everything (well, everything that was correctable) with the 05933 and green Cyclo 4" pads. Using something like the 4"orange pads would give it even more bite. IMO, *with paint of normal hardness* if you can't remove something with 05933 you're dealing with something pretty serious.

BUT, if you're dealing with something especially hard, like the clear on my Audis, then the 05933/PC combo probably won't give complete satisfaction. There *are* limits to what it can do.

once I use the polishing compund and take out all the swirls, will I need a polish before the AIO? I plan on taking out the swirls, then going to AIO, then goto the Z2 for a few quotes.

If I do all this prep work and go right to the Z2, do I really need the Z5? Also will the Z2 work over the AIO? just curious because I have a ton of Zaino left.
