I am a new member to Autopia, but I have read many posts on here the last couple of weeks. I recently sold my 2003 M3, which had to go, when me and my wife had our 1st baby. With the new addition came 2 new cars. I have a 2007 Dark Grey Metallic Maxima and a 2007 Silver Birch Tahoe. I would like some comments on the below listed products that I plan on buying so I can keep my car looking perfect and new. Please feel free to give any advice that you might have. I would like to add that I will be using a PC for application of polishes.

Menzerna Auto Shampoo and ONR

P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner

Sonus Clay (Green)

Poorboy's QD for Lubricant during claying

P21S Metal Polishing Soap for Wheels

Poorboy's Wheel Sealant

Poorboy's Natural Look for Interior

Leatherique Rejuvenator and Pristing (Already Purchased)

Zymol Sponges or Other type wash mitt

P21S Total Auto Wash as needed

Menzerna IP (Already Purchased)

Menzerna FPII (Already Purchased)

Klasse AIO or Menzerna FMJ - Need Opinions

P21S Carnauba - I also recently purchased Zymol Ital on Ebay (Too good of a deal to pass up...Don't know if I will use this yet)

Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield or Opti-Seal or JW AJT

Poorboy's Bold N Bright for Tires

I need recomendations on which pads to get for my PC, what are the best WW drying towels and also need to stock up on some applicator pads.

Please feel free to give suggestions as needed. I have been reading alot of posts on here and I know that there are a ton of great detailers on this forum that could give me some good advice. I appreciate all your comments in advance.

For your pads, its personal preference and technique. A pro might have good luck with cheap LC Flat Foam pads and then a amateur might have terrible results... I personally like the 6.5" LC Flat Foam Pads. Nice full contact the whole time.

Waffle Weaves can be found @ a local Wal-Mart in the housewares section. $2.90 for 2 I think... Do a nice job of drying... Also, wal-mart carries a full size towel microfiber towel for $6.99. Have yet to use this...

Applicators also be found at your local wal-mart, autozone, pep boys, carquest.

Jeff Werkstatt has some nice foam apps for like $1.25 each. $3.70 for 3 I think

JEFFS Werkstatt: the finest in automotive detailing wax and sealants

I have purchased JW AJT. I haven't used it tho, but by searching jeff werkstatt I found numerous threads and reviews on every product... So search for that answer.

Search buttons do amazing things.:tribe:

To save ya money, just use alittle bit of FMJ or HGAS for your rims for a sealant

I use my EX-P on my rims, and windows. :spot

Can't go wrong with Menzerna's. Thats one brand I use most of the time. My go to polish is IP. And I mix it with a little RMG to keep the dusting down. Do a search on waffle weaves and pads. Everyone has an opinion. I use Meguiar's pads and they are fine for me and the work I do. Welcome!

menzerna makes great products and I have a lot...except for their auto wash. It is very poor IMO.

Also Klasse AIO or Menzerna FMJ < these server different purposes.

I use AIO to clean and prep and FMJ as an LSP. I like both but there are a few newer products I like a little better now.

I have a few of these Wally World towels and are excellent ... not a WW mind you but never marred anything with them yet and they dry well..

He might want to get a Sheep Skin Wash mitt too .

Used them for a long time untill the M/F towels showed up .. the Absorber has too much friction and will drag particles over the finish scratching it.

thanks for the replies...pt91 - so you are saying that i need a cleaner like AIO before the FMJ...these products are not equivalent?

No need for a QD to be used as a clay lube, huge waste of money. Instead use car soap, place a few drops inside a 32 ounce spray water, fill with water and begin claying.

So you need P21S Auto Wash PLUS a car soap? What for?

Just use a nice car soap.

And just what does a "Metal polishing soap" do that a cleaner won't do?

You need to understand that MANY products are the SAME product but just wrapped up in a different bottle and given a different name.

Keep the Menzerna polishes but don't bother with the sealants. All you need are a few basic products, not a closet full of products.

Anthony...so what do you think about this process for the paint:

Wash

Menzerna IP

Menzerna FPII

P21S

Opti-Seal

Well as Josh stated, many people believe that S100 and P21S are the same wax, now I can't say for sure that that's true but having used both I can say that they both look great.

So if the looks are great and one is half the cost then I'm sure you know of the smart choice.

Your process is great BUT I would lay down Opti-Seal first, maybe a few coats through the day, and then top that with the paste wax.

In several months if you want to try it the other way around you can FPII, wax and then Opti-Seal. Honestly I have found the look of Opti-Seal alone to be so nice that I just leave it alone :)

I am not worried about the price, but I would like to know why Anthony you say that there is not need for a sealant? I would like to do the FMJ after the FPII, I would like to know why u think this is not necessary. Also, would it be better to use KAIO instead of the FMJ and then go with the Opti-Seal?

KAIO and FMJ are two completely different products. If you go with FMJ, you will not need the P21S. I would go with one or the other.

You may need a cleaner like AIO before the sealant (fmj). FMJ has no cleaning properties.

I don't know the condition of your paint but unless you have a lot of oxidation I would clay instead of applying a cleaner like AIO. It won't hurt to do both but the FMJ s/b your last step.

You can also boost your finish with Menz HGAS after ever wash or two. I really enjoy that product.

pt91...so is what I am sensing is that FMJ and Opti-Seal are the same step...which one would be better...my paint is in great condition as both cars are new 2007

I have not tried out my OS yet but have tried CS. I used it over Z5pro.

FMJ and OS are different in application but serve the same purpose.

I would suggest FMJ (especially boosted if you hv a kit) and then try out some OS over it in a week or two if you don't like the look of FMJ.

If you are doing two cars, it is easy. Do FMJ/HGAS on one and AIO/OS on the other.
