need on advice on detailing a SUV

hey guys im pretty new the detailing world and i need ya help. i been doing some research to get an idea on what to do and what product to use. anyways i would like some advice on detailing my mom's SUV. her suv is 6years old and never been detailed. its only been waxed 2-3 times like 2 years ago. the color of the SUV is a dark green and there is lots of swirls and minor scratchings. also the paint feels really rough and it is really hard to dry it after i wash it since the water does not bead anymore. im am definitly going to clay bar it. but i would like some suggesting on what type of swirl remover and polisher to use. and im most likely going to use meguier hi-tech yellow wax to finish it off.

can't go wrong with a 3M Glaze for removing the swirls and using an orbital polisher would be fine with a medium cut pad. (ex. Cyclo with green pads)
 
yeah im planning to get the 3M swirl remover. i forgot to mention in my first post that ill be doing everything by hand. so i know ill need lots of terry clothe towels.
 
I'd prefer the microfiber towels over terry cloth. The MF's are less abrasive on the paint surface as oppose to the terry cloth towel you are using. Some of the terry cloth towels, depending on their knap, may be more inclined to create hair line scratches. Just a thought for you to think about. Good Luck with everything though.

I've done a couple of neglected cars that had lots of swirl marks. Touching the paints was like rubbing a dry sponge. One white car even had dirt embedded in it that, even after a thorough wash, came out during claying and polishing.



I used mother's clay, then DACP, then #9. My toppers were both different but the DACP and #9 did a great job of getting out 95% of the swirls. I used a PC with a yellow pad for the DACP and a white pad for the #9. Had to work them quite a while. Takes lots of patience to get the swirls out though....neither of them were a quick 3-pass polish.
