need help with vector rotary

my parents recently purchased me a vector 7" rotary buffer for my birthday but before i use it on my car i want to know what products to by and what i can buy for it. car has heavy oxidation light swirl marks and water spots.



I have a couple cars i can practice on before using it on mine but practice doesnt make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. so even though they are "junk" practice cars i want to do the job right. any pointers is greatly appreciated on which products to buy and how to properly use it in accordance to the addition found in the stickys.



right now all i have is a 7" rubber backing plate with wool pad cover so i havent really messed with it too much till i can get the right parts and find out how much its going to cost
 
get some panels from a body shop to practice on.



Look at the edge 2000 pads.



A favorite method of swirling the panels is using steal wool. A good product that has effective abrasives, but doesnt take as much of the clear / paint off is the pinnacle XMT series. With a rotary, look at the step 2 or 3.
 
start with mild products and pads. An edge green pad and Mothers Powerpolish would be a nice beginning combo. Always keep the machine moving and tape edges and sharp lines.
 
so if i was to use a polishing pad, with a mild polish, then finish it off with finishing pad with p21s caranuba wax I should be fine? I just want to know how hard or easy it would be to mess up my cars finish with this rotary. People make it sound like its a bottle of nitroglycerin that one wrong move and boom you are screwed. I will be starting with the mildest of pads and polish and i do have some practice cars. right now i am thinking 2-3 pads of each light cutting pad, polishing, and finish pad i just have no idea what polish or wax to purchase
 
mess up the cars paint with rotary - easy to do....depends on the pad/product/user error however....I am learning to use a rotary and i havent messed up a paint job yet either....i have used only foam pads with PG compound on a excel yellow, and polishes with excel blue.



i'll tell you what, the rotary leaves a better finish and is FASTER, I just wish I could control it better like the PC....that thing is so easy to use!
 
well i have not tried to do this properly with a quality product i guess, but i have washed and dried car as described in tutorial. I have not clay barred the car which might save me alot of trouble but after wash and dry i use a meguiars 3 stage process with paint cleaner, polish, and wax I have used all tips described but am always left with a blotchy, streaky looking paint like something was spilled on the car and discolored the paint so i figured if i could properly learn how to use rotary it would help
