Car is a 93 MR2 with severe swirl marks and moderate oxidation/fading. I've completed the engine bay in back and one side and it's actually coming back nicely. I'm starting on the hood and under a halogen light the swirl marks are fairly evident. I'm using a PC and Meguires Heavy Cut cleaner (#4) and 3M medium compound with a yellow pad. I've completed two sections on the hood and neither product on the highest level will remove the swirl marks. The oxidation is gone but swirl marks remain.
Couple questions: Should I go more to a more aggressive product/pad or keep going over each section with what I have? I'm a little afraid of polishing throught the paint as some corners of the hood already are to the primer. Also, what's more aggresive the 3M medium compound or #4 heavy cut cleaner? Reason I ask is the 3M will actually haze pretty bad, the heavy cut cleaner doesn't haze at all, neither have removed the swirl marks.
Here are a couple pics, thanks!
