Need help with deep scratches

I can't believe this happened. As I was drying my car last night I suddenly noticed what looked like brown smears on the hood, upon closer inspection it was mud and there were very deep scratches. Seems a damned wasp decided to build a small nest on the underside of my MF towel. I didn't notice it (obviously) until it was way too late.

I've used the PC (white bonnet) with Scratch-X and some very fine clear coat polishing compound. It is better, but still very obviously there (the surrounding paint sure is slick). I'm timid about doing much more compounding, but on the other hand I figure it can't get much worse.

What do you all suggest?

I don't think I've ever had paint as soft as this BMW has.

Thanks

well, i think you will have to start to compound just a little bit more, but before you do i want you to do a test on the car.

Take your finger nail and run it lightly over the scratch, if your finger nail gets caught in the scratch then its to late, your damage has been done, time to open up a six pack and cry all night long:(

But there is good news too, you may be able to compound it to a point where you will not be able to see the scratch unless you are right up against the car, you will know it is there, but no one else will be able to see it unless they are looking for it

Try the Scratch-X again - but i would recommend doing it by hand, not with the orbital. Put a drop on a foram pad, then place your finger over that drop and rub firmly directly over the scratch and ONLY in the direction of the scratch. This will round the corners of the scratch and make it disappear even if the ultimate depth is large. (The PC is wasting almost ALL the polishing time/action going in some direction other than straight along the scratch, and you really don't want to lower your entire clear coat to the level of the bottom of a deep scratch.)

Thanks for the reply

Initially the scratches easily failed the fingernail test. With the compounding I've done it is much better, but still there's a bit of a depression.

I'm still in the clearcoat, so there's probably a bit more compounding that could be done. I don't really have a way of knowing if the scratches made it into the color.

I still can't get over how what amounts to some dried mud can cause that much damage.
