Need Help with black 97 BMW Paint. MARRING!!!

Keep getting marring, have used FPII with LC white pad etc. can't seem to get rid of the marring(halograms) from the pad. Maybe going too fast, 3 speed on Makita might be too high.

I'm going to try some PI III MG today and see what happens.

This damn black paint is very finicky.



If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
 
I have read alot of people switch to PC for final polishing. I hope you can find a good answer, theres a thread in machine polishing about this I think about mastering the rotary polisher.
 
IPA wipedown?

I just did the following over the past 2 days.



Wash

Clay

Optimum Polish - Blue Edge 2000 - Makita Rotary @ 3

IPA wipe

FPII - Blue Edge 2000 - PC @ 5

IPA wipe

Z5 pro zfx

Z6

Z5 pro zfx

Z6



The IPA wipedowns and the FPII via PC removed the halograms.



I still see some product on the car (very slight smearing). The temp is about 51 here and dont think I gave the 2nd Z5pro application enough time to dry (1.5h) Tomorrow Ill go out and do a Z8 application.
 
You used a PC and not the Makita rotary with the FPII to remove the marring??

I'm using the Rotary and it ain't working folks.

Man I've detailed all my vehicles and this one is giving the biggest PIA.



I'm using Prep Kleen as a wipe down, used in Autobody shops as a cleaning solvent prior to painting etc.
 
Go for a softer pad, like SM Arnolds black 90ppi or similar. The LC white is a polishing pad, right?
 
I removed all of the marring with the rotary w/ edge 2000 blue 6" and Optimum Polish.

The FPII via PC was just a luxury to insure there were no holograms and add a little shine.



This will most likely be the last time I get to really clean my cars until April 2007. NY weather...
 
I'm going to try a black pad with the FPII and also a section with a black pad with PI III machinge glaze and see which one gives me a better result. I'm thinking the white LC pad is the root of all evil.

I'm also going to use my PC instead of the rotary.

I'll let you know what happens, I'm in the garage as we speak with my laptop constantly checking the replies.

Black LC pad with FPII, rotary set between 1-2 on makita, and mirror like finish, no haze, hologram, pure bliss. Man I could not even use a white LC pad without producing some marring on that damn black beemer. That black pad saved my sanity.

I need to get some more fine finishing pads. Anyone have any recommendations on the softest pads for finishing, I'm gonna need them with this black paint.

If you want the bigger pads, try 3M's dark gray finish pads with a waffle pattern. Very soft and do a nice job.



For a good pc pad, try Propel gray finish pads.

Tralfaz: The Propel pads are the same diameter as the Meguiar's pc pads (6.5" if I remember correctly). Call Excel Detail in California for more information. I just ordered some and they work great.



The 3M pads I use (white compounding and gray finishing) the shop owner gets from the 3M rep in the KC area.

Has anyone tried the new green ones for German cars, I believe I spotted on the Classic Motoring website. They sound great, I wonder how great they really are though.
