need help w/blk. expedition

Hawaiianelement

I love silicone !!
Aloha guys , I have a important job to do on Monday. I trade services alot here on the islandand am doing a full detail on the owner of the biggest tint shop on O'ahu. He has alot of connections and has been in business for over 25 yrs. I traded the detail for tinting and chrome vinyl stickers for the outside of my mobile unit. Honda Element -Galapagos Green.

OK, he has a '03 Ford Expedition black . Not alot of swirls exept the hood and top of fenders and tailgate . My problem is he doesn't want a rotary to be used but my PC RO is ok. People will look at his car closely when he says he got it detailed..so I want to do the best job I can ..

Here's what I have available.

PC random orbital yellow and white pads.7 1/2 in.

SSR 2.5
SSR 1
Meg DACP
Meg Speed Glaze
Pw/C
EX-P
EX
UPP
Natty's
Meg Mirror Glaze.

I appreciate any help with the best combo to use w/ the PC and I apply wax by hand . I'll definately wash and clay . The inside will be woolite mix and hot extraction. 4*leather treatment ..and PB's NL for everything else.

Thx in advance..Aloha Jon.

Not use a rotary. Tell him not to use any water when he tints your windows. That Pc can only correct small things. Sell him on the benifits of using both. The rotary will remove the deeper flaws while the Pc will remove any of the possible wheel marks from the rotary.
Cant help with your products I've never used them. I do read that alot of people use the DACP with the Pc and are happy.
Good Luck with that ford I've had 3 Expeditions all black and they were never black black like other car mfg. black.

Without seeing the paint I would try multiple passes of DACP until the swirls are "as removed as possible." As you know there are some things the PC just can't do, but multiple passes would be the best way to go IMO.

For a beautiful finish on black I would follow up with #80, then SSR1 and top with EX. I think that the carnauba in EX will give the paint a nice glow.

Obviously depending upon the wants/needs of your customer you could change the LSP to "tweek" the look a little.

Aloha Jon,

You have a great resource in Ranney right there on the Island...don't be afraid to ask him questions as I've seen some of his great work...As I've seen myself and from the Mercedes and other black vehicles recently done by Clean Dean, your last steps could be EX and Natty's, and i'm sure he won't be disappointed:)

Hawaiianelement,

I think that any of those LSP's, or combination of those LSP's, including the UPP or Meguiar's will look great on black provided the prep is done correctly.

If you are looking to impress with this vehicle, I would follow EBP's suggestion. Use the DACP or SSR2.5 to remove as many swirls as possible. I find DACP to be ever so slightly more aggressive than SSR2.5, but SSR2.5 is easier to use.............. choose the one you prefer.

Then, step down in abrasiveness to the Speed Glaze and then the SSR1. If the paint is clean, and swirl/blemish free, making it look great with any LSP will be easy.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

I would think with this vehicle being used as a business demo that it would be fairly well maintained, but it is hard to tell without seeing it in person, only thing I can think is you should be OK unless you are getting it after a body shop did a rush job on it and left deep swirls or sand marks in the paint, otherwise what EBP and Boss said is very solid advice. I hate black paint but at the same time I enjoy it, it allows others to see your skill although they take a little more time than a lighter color car. Good luck!

Mahalo guys, real solid advice.I appreciate it alot . I upgraded my goodies from palshak and it's all good. I made sure I scheduled this one on my day off so I can take my time..Thanks again.
