Need help polishing tight areas. *pics* 90 Mustang

Ok so here is what I'm into and getting deeper into every day.

I'm doing a pretty big and rather detailed clean up job of the engine bay of my 1990 Mustang LX. When I bought the car last year, it was caked with a wax-like rust inhibitor.

I decided to take this mess off the engine bay using mineral spirits and elbow grease like you wouldn't believe! New wire looms, tooth brush cleaning electric connectors and sensors.

The mineral spirits do a great job of removing the waxy rust protection but the paint is marred after. I hand polished the shock towers last year and they turned out ok. Now I'm doing the firewall and had to remove a bunch of stuff to get to it. I did a small spot with my PC and four inch orange pad...turned out good but I don't think I have enough space to work with the PC further down the wall....any recommendations?

Is there anything I can get for my Makita rotary?? I really don't want to spend a whole lot. The paint is not destroyed, I was wondering if something could be done by hand.

I have the same issue with my Trans Am (see my avatar).  Do you?  The front nose is a pain to polish.  I'd like to get some advice on what to use for hand polishing as well. MF's, yellow wax pads, a foam pad cut in half?

Striker- I guess suggesting "more time" would be a bad idea :P  I've spent entire afternoons doing tight spots on the Audis and it's sure no fun.

I bet that one of the new super-compounds from Meguiar's (M100 or M101) would make it easier going.

My choices for by-hand correction- cotton or cut-up foam cutting pads for the aggressive work, foam for intermediate, MF for finishing.  And a crazy length of time.

Heh heh, see what happens when you scrub paint with a toothbrush!  There are natural-bristle ones that really soften up when wet, those work OK (marring-wise) for me for jobs like that but they're both pricey and hard t find.

RaskyR1- That car looks like it has some spots that you still had to do by hand.

Accumulator- Right now, I have M105+4 inch orange pads&4 inch white pads. In your honest opinion, should I be good with these products? I am trying to avoid buying new compound for such a small rather inconspicuous area.

I didn't use a brush LOL- I went with a terry cloth dabbed with some mineral spirits.

**I cant post pictures** just doesn't seem to work.
