Got no idea where to start.. should i just print one on some color paper? any ideas or examples any of you guys might have?

This may not be the easiest way but here's the way I did it.

Factor how long it takes you to do each task (vacuum, windows, wash, wheels everything)for a small, med and large vehicle.

Some tasks are just standard.. I never see a vehicle without doing certain things so that all gets factored in.

I multiply my normal hourly rate plus supplies usage by $0.25 and I can work with 15 minute product / cycle times.

If this doesn't help you can PM me...

Whatever you do make sure that you have the prices firmly set in your mind before you get started... Its easy to drop your prices over the excitement of your first few customers... but then word gets out that you do work for blah blah blah... and next thing you know your trying to explain why you jacked up the prices from last month when you did their buddies car.

Most guys that are good enough to start out on their own make the mistake of undercharging what they're worth. Do some local research. Find out what other shops are doing and set your prices according to how your work compares. If your skill blows them out of the water start your lower packages around their top notch services. It doesnt take too many folks getting blown away by your basic services before they come back curious about what they can get for the full package... and thats when you really pull out the stops.

If youve got the skills dont get caught in the price war trap. Stick to your guns(and your higher prices) it may take a little longer to get things started, but once you start dropping prices its a lot harder to bring them back up.

Are you certain that you want to offer ala carte services?

Early on we decided not to do that. Essentially, we offer Interior only, Exterior only, and Complete details. It has worked quite well for us.

Oh sure, we do the occasional wash, wash & wax, but it is not the focus of our pricing. Additionally, we offer PDR Paint Touchup and Interior Repairs - but those items are all priced by quote...

Just a different perspective. We like to keep it as simple as possible.

Good Luck.

Jim

Another possible way is to set your daily rate and figure out how many cars you can do in one day and charge accordingly. If a full detail takes 8 hours what you charge is your daily rate. If an exterior one step detail takes 2 hours-that's 1/4 your daily rate. If a wash takes 1 hour then it's 1/8 your daily rate. If you are mobile then factor in traveling time as best as possible. Schedule based on estimated time per detail per day.

I've always wondered what people are charging around the country. I check the "click and brag" daily, but some of the correction details look like they take forever!! No one will give out their prices, I don't blame them...but just curious as to how much some of them cost.

Look at my post with the 2008 Detailers Survey. It gives you all that info.
