need help - detailing friends car for show!

6cyl's_of_fury

its naturally curly......
I have a mates car (dark, slightly metallic maroon) that has vinyl graphics applied to it that he has asked me to detail for a car show.

I have looked it over and for a 6 year old car it is not too bad. It has never been clayed :bigscream so it was kinda rough to the touch and clay will be my first port of call along with a QEW wash. I had planned to follow up with SSR2.5, Menzerna FP and I have left myself open on the last one or two steps, please help me decide as I have never detailed maroon and Im not sure what will look really good!
Sealant-wise: WG, EX, EX-P, NXT, Klasse.
Wax: Mothers, #26, S100 or PS.

My preference is swinging towards PS on a VM/AIO/GEPC base, but with my time constraint ( needs to be done in a day ), is it possible to do a sealant topper combo?

My only other concern is polishing over vinyl graphics - can I do it?!? Any help or hints guys and gals as this is new territory for me......

Cheers! :bigups

Personally after the prep, I would apply some meguiars #7 (or #81) then NXT and top with your PS. I have never used PS, but when I prepped my car for a show earlier this year I did the same routine, but topped with trade secret. I have heard that results from PS and TS are close . How close? I have no idea, but it looked relly good in my eyes!!

Good luck at the show!!!

I have a 97 maroon integra and I really like the look of WG on it. It darkened it a bit and gave it a nice warm glow. I have other products that I've used on our TSX but I've been so happy with look of WG on the teg I've stayed with it. It's easy on and easy off.

EPBcivicsi, cheers for that. I have #7 but didnt even consider it, completely skipped my mind!

And if it is possible to do a coat or two of EX then follow up with a wax ( as you mention Steve, but Scott is super-human ), I might give that a stab! Would be a killer combo I reckon....

Thanks all.

Fury,
Over at MOL, they say #7 can be put on over your LSP just to give it "that" look. It's called "show car glaze" :lol

Good Luck to you and your friend at the show

So, just to clarify, it'll be okay to use SSR2.5 with a PC over external vinyl?

My wife's MINI is waiting in the wings for my product to arrive (thanks again Steve!!) today or tomorrow, but I don't want to damage her racing stripes, which are decals.

I would be REALLY careful using a polish or anything abrasive near them. I stayed clear of them with the polish but zipped right over them with EX. Go slow and make sure your PC won't tear it up too!
