Hey all, I'm in the market for wool pads and have my eye set on a few that include: LC PFW, Meg's heavy burgundy or light yellow and Meg's Cut N' Shine. What's the scoop on all these and if there are other brands/types, by all means, let me know! I mainly use Meg's compounds and Menz polishes FYI.

black lambs wool from micro-surface - less cut but better finish

lake country PFW - more cut less finish ability

megs solo yellow - more cut less cutting ability

those are the ones I use

wow when it comes to wool you really have as many if not more options out there as foam. I've been testing out the buff-n-shine line up lately and really like the system. I lean more towards the foam for them over their wool. The edge system has some really nice choices as well. Solo's are nice as well. Still haven't tried out the PFW's yet but I'm getting tempted to spring for a couple here soon. Always been a huge fan of shiliegal's pads. They've been around longer than anyone else in the pad business and have always made top notch. For me because I tend to be more aggressive with the machine I tend to get a finish wool to correct with. I do have a nice selection of compounding pads that are really aggressive as well but I usually find them to be a bit of overkill. With a good machine and the right product you can usually go a little less aggressive on the pad selection.

If it were me I would probably look at a couple of finish twist pads possibly a couple PFW pads and a couple different sizes from 7" down to about 5" for wool I know a few ppl that use the 4" wool but that's a little much for my liking. Too aggressive is such a small spot. I know none of this probably helped LOl more like just added to the confusion but in the end if you go with a reputable name brand your more than likely going to end up with a quality pad regardless.

toyotaguy - when you say, "megs solo yellow - more cut less cutting ability", what do you mean? More cut less finishing ability, maybe? I think I've read about those MS black wool pads before, seem to be good eh? I'll see if I can pick one up to try out.

David Fermani - Cool, thanks for the link!

Jakerooni - Thanks for all that info. I think I'm going to try out PFW, Meg's yellow/burgandy and the MS black wool and go from there.

Keep 'em coming you guys!

socalb6 i must admit i took davids advice on this pad before and ill tell you what you'll never use another wool pad again. also when you call ask debbie for some samples of there microsurface sheets. they send you to little baggies of them. those things willl change everything you ever thought about a smooth surface!

bufferbarry - Cool, thanks for the heads up!

What's the primary purpose of the black wool pads? I see them listed as polishing pads. I am mainly looking for a heavy hitting wool pad to cut through some pretty nasty oxidation and swirls/deep scratches, would it be able to take them on?

yes, but the thing i have noticed is the finish down after words. they finish so nice. lol just order the damn things and don't second guess it ! lmao

I have the Lake Country PFW pad. Can someone compare the performance to the micro-surface black wool? Which is better for deeper scratches?

I have Megs 105, 205, #83, and older 1Z polishes; plus dare I say System-One polish.

X3! please give a compairison!

To me, there is no comparison. The Micro-Surface pad hardly sheds, cuts better, leaves the finish will much less marring, costs less and lasts longer. It's a no brainer.
