NEED HELP! Before Car Show

Hey all I am detailing my buddy's car before we go down to Georgia for Nopi Nationals. I figured most of the detailing we can do down there but..what should I do as far as waxing and everything. We have to drive the car from Indiana to Georgia. I figured if we waxed it..all I would need is some QD and water and clean it up before the show. One guy I was talking to told me to put saran wrap on the front end so all I would have to do is take it off and I would be ok..but it doesn't sound safe..and would probably flap off anyways. Tire shine, Interior protectant and engine bay shine will go on right before the show. Thanks for all the help!

When I drive my street rod long distances to a show/event often times the hotel (if a lot of car people are staying there) provides a hose and a box of their old towels (OK for doing your wheels and tires).

Last year I bought one of those cheap flat/roll-up hoses for my trip to Indiana. It came in handy since the motel didn't have a hose out, but they didn't mind my using the outside faucet to do a wash on my car.

Just throw a bucket (or two) with your wash supplies in the trunk (don't forget your MF's) and you'll be good to go and ready to wash the bugs off.

Don't know about the saran wrap.... don't think I'd try that one. It is nice to have a bra to protect against bugs and rock chips.

I would suggest some QEW. I use it all the time when I travel to distance car shows. I just bring two buckets, a small spray bottle with QEW, and some QEW to mix. No hose needed :D

This is my new plan, just need to get around to ordering it :)

You will probably need a full wash from all the bugs. I drive from IN to SC about once a month, and QD would never cut it. You'll also have to fully clean the wheels as you'll probalby end up with a lot of brake dust from going through the mountains.

Even with the best coat of wax, plan on a full wash. +/- 700 miles and you will need it.

Detail the hell out of the body before you leave, just as you would if the show was 5 miles away. Wash, polish, wax, glaze etc etc etc. That way when you get there you can just wash, maybe add a top coat, and do the interior touch up.

See you there!

I carry a bucket full o' stuff, a hose, pliers and lots of MF towels.

You'll need to wash at a minimum, and quick detail afterwards. And, of course, you'll need to do tires, wheel wells and all the underhood stuff.

At a minimum, QD at every gas and food stop to keep the bugs to a minimum.

Just driving through Indiana, the front will be covered in bugs. I drive 40 miles each way on I69 each day and it just saddens me to see my car after my commute. Work schedule doesn't leave me time to wash during the week, so it's absolutely disgusting come weekend time. I've S&W'd a couple times, but with the amount of bugs I hit, I feel like it's just a waste of product :(

I've heard of people putting blue painter's tape over the leading edges of their show cars to protect it while travelling.

QEW is probably your best option for washing when you get there. Or find a quarter wash at night time and do a bucket wash using only their water. Anywhere near the track, and I bet everyone will have the same idea though.

What my mate does is to cover the front of the car with GLAD wrap, except the air intakes and then puts on the car bra. He reckons that the wrap prevents any dirt and bugs getting in and thus the car bra doesn't scratch.

A car bra alone can get dirt in it and then vibrates from the high pressure air and grinds in the dirt

Bug guard would be nice if I could get pro wax brand down under

Yes..it works great. Thanks to recommendations from Autopia member Brad B. Leaves no residue on the paint and is a great protector from bugs and chips.

Yeah,

That auto skin is highly interesting. Now's the chance for the Autopia store or one of the other premium online vendors to jump on it to import it to the US :up

Oh yeah, I forgot about that stuff, not that I like that you have to brush it on

Full metal jacket hey

I really want to try that. After what happened to my last bra I think I kinda need one.

BillD does that Bug Guard really work well? I drive up to Canada from NC and man does my front end get killed. ALl chipped and charred up its sad :( Pretty cheap for a small bottle, but shipping kinda makes you wanna buy more products. Got any suggestions? :D

They already have one in the US http://ultimatecarfinish.com/

Seems kind of expensive though, one application costs $20.00!!

Now here is a thought, go to your local friendly new car dealer and ask them if you can have some of the white plastic protective sheeting that is applied to all new cars for delivery. I've played with this stuff a bit, you can peel it off and put it right back on again. Once you're done with it, just throw it away.

I wish I could :( Here's another area of interest the best online vendors servicing the most extremely obsessed folks :D could look into
