Need help applying/removing H.G.S.G. by machine

Hello all...hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend. I want to thank you all for your advise and answers to my questions. I took out my P.C. this weekend and proceeded to polish (3M SMR and AIO) and then applied H.G.S.G. The car looks great (black Jetta) but I don't think I applied the H.G.S.G. correctly and need some advise. I didn't spray the applicator with some Q.D. so I think that was one problem, as I got some spots that were hard to buff off. Can you guys give me some tips on how to apply this stuff with the P.C.? I don't want to hand apply it, as I don't trust myself for fear of "streaking" due to finger pressure. I'm also wondering if you guys can recommend something other than H.G.S.G. that maybe easier to apply by machine as I am a newbie and need all the help I can get. Application tips are very welcome. Thanks again guys...
 
You can apply SG with a fine grade foam pad with the PC, the gray one from CMA works well. I still do it by hand because it goes pretty fast. Just lay it down thin, you don’t need to grind it in, just lay it down. I wouldn’t recommend removing SG with the PC. The bonnet from CMA didn’t work well for me. You can buff out stubborn spots with a sprtiz of quick detailer followed by a dry microfiber towel or you can buff with a slightly damp microfiber towel followed by a dry one.



SG IMHO is the easiest to apply out of anything I’ve tried because it’s so thin and watery, it just takes a few applications to get the hang of it. Buffing it out can be a bit hard but it’s easy if you follow the tips above. Good luck!!

I too prefer to apply by hand with a microfiber applicator and remove with a pair of mf towels (one damp, one dry). Works really well. FWIW, I use the applicator without any QD and just use a little more SG at first until there is some 'stored' in the applicator.

What's the trick to putting on "just enough"? I'm so used to applying wax and seeing it go on. I'm not comfortable with not being able to see what goes on and hope you guys can shed some light on this for me. I'm also reading alot about Blackfire using the search tool. Can you guys elaborate on this for me? How good/easy is it to use?
 
The way Porterdog describes is a good way to do it. If the applicator is damp with SG and it’s gliding, you’re laying down product. I’m guessing your car might be white? If so it’s very hard to see the SG.



Blackfire is a good product. Easy on, easy off. Leaves a finish more like carnauba than Zaino or Klasse. Has less slickness than Z or Klasse, not sure if this is significant but I like slick. Durability doesn’t seem as good as Klasse but it’s very easy to buzz on a coat of Blackfire to refresh it. Just started to play with Zaino so can’t really compare yet, but after a month it still looks super.

Sharkie...my car is black so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here. How much of it should I see as I lay it on? I'm just freaking out about the whole "apply just enough", streaking, etc. I'm going to give the s.g. another shot, but is it worth picking up the blackfire? Can I layer it over my aio and sg?
 
I find SG goes on/off best out of the sun and a cool surface but it’s hard to see if the light is poor. I think Jngrbrdman and some other Klasse pros say that if you can see it you used too much, I don’t go that thin and can see a slight haze in good light. But as long as your applicator is wet with product and you are thorough you are doing it right. You mentioned your car looks good so I bet you are fine.



Anyways I’ve played with layering Blackfire all finish paint protection and SG on top of each other and there doesn’t seem to be any bonding problems. For me trying all the different products has been fun but Klasse it great stuff, it wouldn’t give up on it so fast.

If it was hard to buff only on SOME spots, then you actually did a pretty decent job with the High Gloss Sealant Glaze. Did you use water or QD to aid in the removal? All it takes is a very small amount of water spritzed onto an MF towel to loosen the HGSG. Follow it up with a clean dry MF and it wipes off with very little effort.

Well, I'll share my super-secret observation on just enough SG ;)....



What I do, in addition to what I posted above, is get my head really close to the surface so that I can look slantwise at the finish where the SG'd MF applicator is touching. IMHO, 'just enough' is when you can watch the solvent flash off right behind the applicator. It's kind of like watching window cleaner dry- it's wet, then it's not. Quickly. Typically, at my normal application stroke speed (not fast, not slow) the solvent is no longer visible 2-4" behind the applicator.

QD's that don't contain any carnuaba, such as Final Inspection are fine.
 
...put any Wax on top of the SG to protect it? I'm kind of lost if one needs to put wax when using Klasse or not?? :nixweiss

the SG is a protectant.. the layering of another wax on top is mearly for added gloss / shine.. Klasse is already one of the most durable sealants out there.
