hey everyone,

yesterday night, both are maltese dogs (brother & sister and are 1 1/2 years old) became missing. evidently, the door opened from the strong winds (my nephew didn't shut it all the way when he left) and they got out. my sister never got tags for them (i know, i've already chewed her out) and now she is posting flyers up everywhere around the neighborhood, as well going to check the shelter. is there anything else you can suggest?

Call all of the local vets, as well. And seriously consider chipping your dogs. Tags get lost, chips don't.

Man I really hope you are able to find them! :(

Be sure to leave pictures with the shelters in case they do come in and put your contact information on the back of them. Also I'm sure you already did this but take a nice drive around your surrounding area and see if you can see anything.

While you're driving/walking around your neighborhood also show pictures to the local kids that you see. You'd be surprised how well they "network" with each other and know what is going on in their "turf". The mention of a small reward wouldn't hurt either.

If you can be around when the bus drops them off, or when they're walking home from school you'll have a better chance of seeing more kids.

Hopefully they are in a temporary home being treated like a little king and queen until the folks can locate who they belong to.

VETS, SHELTERS, POLICE, FIRE DEPT, AMBULANCE CO, call everywhere.

Chips work well, but the people that find the pet need to have a scanner to read the chip.

Dont be home on the computer - get out, your dogs need you.

Put an ad in the newspaper too.

Good luck man I really hope that you are able to find the kids!! :sadpace:

If its a small town, go to the Radio stations too. We have a program for lost dogs at my Radio Station.

I had this happen to me. After 3 days someone called my cell to tell me they saw a found dog sign not too far from my lost dog sign. I called the found number and sure enough she had my female rotti. She actually took the girl home and was not too keen on giving her back! I put chips in both dogs after that. Don't give up hope, they will turn up.

My Lab found his way home after 8 hours of missing, so if you're lucky the dogs will return when they get hungry. If not, definetly call animal control and the shelters and see if you can pass a photo along to them.

Offer a small reward. This generally encourages people , not to just keep an eye open, but to also actively look at stray dogs and cats, or even to pass the word on. Especially with teenagers, they'll search the woods if they know they can get $50 for booze.

Hope you find your pets, its a horrible feeling.

WE FOUND THEM  :getdown :spot !!! the flyering paid off as someone called and had them (they wandered for blocks). my sister offered a $1500 reward and of course, they came forward (just one alone cost that much, but that's besides the point). but most importantly.... we have them (we're lucky they were together) and that's all that matters!!!!! thanks to EVERYONE'S advice... :goodjob

p.s. we're getting them chipped soon!

I am so glad you found them...my world would be so empty with out my 2 dogs....my dogs go beyond being pets..they are family members ..like kids...as it seems your dogs are....

I would get them chipped and also a tag..but on the tag never put the dogs name..just your name.. address and phone...

Always have a picture of your dog also to ID in cases like this..incase some tries to say it is there dog...take it with a family member....

Again glad the kids are Home

Al

Glad you found them! But I have to ask, $1500 reward? Are people really that rotten that they wouldn't return someone else's dogs for $50? As someone who had a dog that liked to "escape" and I got many phone calls to retreive him, I would never accept any reward for returning someone else's dog. It's not like it's a ring or something that you can hock.

Yay! So glad to hear you found them. My pets are my kids, and I would be heartbroken if anything happened to them.

:woohoo: That is excellent news! I am happy that you found them and they are home safe and sound.

Yeah that sounds really steep... and they accepted the money?? I'm like you Mike... I wouldn't take a dime rather just have a great feeling the owner has their kids back.

Some people :hmph:

I really hope she went right out to Petco and speant a couple of bucks in the dog tag machine! NEVER let your dogs go without tags.

Really glad to hear you got your dogs back,me and Mrs Concours would be devastated if we lost our Westie,I would 'dog proof' your back garden so they couldnt get out,at least sort the door out with some kind of self locking rim latch,I would also put REWARD on the tag,not the dogs name as already suggested.
