need advice on washing/waxing

I have a few questions about washing/waxing my 01 GMC K1500 pewter metallic

1. What would be the best microfiber towels to use while waxing .

2. What kind of wash mitt should I be using.

3. I have VERY MINOR swirl marks, is there anything that I can use by hand to correct this problem

4. I have tried numerous waxes, Zymol Cleaner Wax, Meguiars NXT, Mequiars Gold Class, etc. which would be the best for durability and shine?

I appreciate any and all help!

Welcome to Autopia!

1) Ones that won't scratch the paint (test on the data side of a CD). There are so many good sources that I'd rather not pick one or two because I don't want to slight all the others. Any cursory search here will bring up a zillion suggestions ;)

2) Ones that won't scratch the paint :D I like sheepskin ones (real sheepskin, with a leather lining). Some high-quality MF ones are great too. Avoid synthetic sheepskin ones like the plague. And don't write off Boar's Hair Brushes. But I'd get a foamgun (another thing well worth searching on) to use while washing.

3) Depends how minor and how hard your paint is. Polishes from 1Z (see PAKSHACK who sells other good stuff too, hint hint regarding Q#1) always come to mind when working by hand.

4) Of those, I'd guess the NXT for durability and the Gold Class for shine. But then I'm not a huge fan of/expert on OTC waxes. Generally, cleaner waxes lack durability.

You like MF wash-mitts or have they changed since the last time I used them?

It seemed the washed the dirt out well but any other larger particle they picked it it stayed stuck right in there. Had to sit there and pick it all out by hand.

I got fed up and have been using the Wash pads that autoint sells.

I like MF mitts *with caveats* (which I probably should've explained in that earlier post). I remove most of the potentially abrasive/might-stick-to-MF stuff with the BHB or another type of mitt and I use the MF mitt for final cleaning. I find that *some* kinds of stuff get stuck in MF more readily than in other materials, but this method seems to take care of that.

I'm kinda getting away from telling newbies not to use MF mitts as a hard and fast rule. Hope that's not a mistake...If I had my druthers I'd point them all towards a BHB/foamgun approach.

Note that my foamgun-centric wash methods surely influence my thinking on wash media.

Oh, and the other day I used my MF mitts to do a post-wash refresher with FK425, it worked GREAT! I think I'll do all such QDing that way in the future.
