Need advice on detailing a car with graphics

Well my friend is a drag racer and has landed some sponsorship. he is going to be adding some of the company's graphics/logos onto his car and wants me to detail the car. I have never detailed a car with graphics on it before. Does anyone have experience with this sort of job. I wouldn't want to damage the graphics. I'm not quite sure how to treat them. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Vinyl Is there to stay. My entire truck is covered with graphics for the business, and i can polish and wax whatever right over them. It is resilient stuff. I have worked with the Tint Shop, one of the top tinters and vinyl shops in the country, and if they say it is ok, and i find it is ok, i would bet it is ok! (at least if you mess up, fixing vinyl is only like $5 vs paint at like $5000) i would be more worried about paint than vinyl :D
 
tpgsr, thanks for the reply. i just wanted to make sure that i wouldn't peel it off or damage it. do you do yours by hand or pc or rotary? i just want to be save, especially since it isnt my ride. thanks.
 
I use the PC only, i wont use a rotary, because i think that there may be a chance of peeling or too much heat may even damage the adhesive. I would say that by had or PC you should be safe, just use common sense. If it starts to give with the PC, back off and do that area by hand. Just my .02 hope it helps
 
2001 civic, thanks for the pics. very nice. how do u like that stripe and how much was it? i was thinking about getting the same one. i need more flash on the outside to have a chance at car shows. judges tell me i'm to plain. i always liked the clean look myself but was considering something like yours.
 
How to peel off the stripe, they have been on my car for 5 yrs now and I want to peel/take them off.

I heard people use dental floss and heat gun. Any more tips?

The only bad thing about this is that the paint might be faded except for under the decal so you might have a mark where the old decal was.



To take it off just use a heat gun and peel it. Floss usually only works good for emblems.

Bear with me, how to use the heat gun, what's the temp that I should use? I am worry about burn the paint.:nixweiss
