need advice after hood repaint

I just had my hood repainted (2 stage) and while the paint work looks great, the finish has ton a of buffer trails.

How soon can I take a shot at cleaning this up?

I realize the paint will be softer and should go at it conservatively.

I want to sell the car but don't want to show it the way it is.

if your careful you could do it now. the longer you wait the harder it will become unless it has reached it max hardness. you didn't mention or may not now what type of paint water bourne or solvent? did the shop cure it in any way (heat lamps)? these things play in to how long does it take you paint to fully cure.
 
I don't know, when I mentioned the buffer trails he said I could bring it back in a month and they would go over it.

He said that if he used their scratch remover now, it would soften the paint and may open it up chipping.

I don't really want them touching the car again, and I know its something I can do.

I just don't want to wait 30 days to sell the car.

That doesn't make sense and I get suspicious of people who say BS stuff :think:

Unless they just sprayed it like...a few days ago, I would go ahead and try a gentle approach, more gentle that you expect it to need. I mean, he already used a buffer on it or it wouldn't have the "buffer trails", so you can use one on it too.

He is lying. They obviously already buffed the car, right?



You need to find a competent autopia level detailer in your area to properly polish the hood and then make the body shop reimburse you.
 
The car was painted last Wed, and I picked it up Fri afternoon.

I have off this Fri. and will give it a shot.

I know he's feeding me BS is why I don't want them to touch it, and I've corrected worse before but not on new paint.

I realize they put a machine to it already. I'm just a bit apprehensive going too much too soon...

I see things like this all the time in my shop. No matter how good a body shop is they never seem to finish with a proper polish. You can do full correction on your car anytime as long as you use silicone free "body shop safe" compounds. If you are confident in your correction ability you should have no problems just use the appropriate products.
 
Ok, bit of a followup.

I went over the hood this morning. I'm satisfied with the outcome. Didn't take great pics, cause I was interested in getting it out with the for sale sign.

It always astounds me that body shops spend a fair amount of time prepping a car and painting it, yet have no problem sending it out the door with buffer trails and holograms. In most cases it would only take one more step to send it out the way it should be.
